Yes tranny is stock and a ticking timebomb just like every other syty trans.

So far it is holding well, lives on synthetic fluid, is cooled between rounds and changed often.

Jeff is doing a good job of keeping you guys posted! Damn desk jockeys.

I really think 90% of the problem is the hard ass tires. Hopefully JSM "strange brew " tire softner will remedy that problem. If not maybe Jimmy's green dots. If not those I guess it is time to limit power on launch:x

Also I think we can get more speed out of her.110?111? Who Knows. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. If not ROAD TRIP!

Looks like weather might be ok to go.

Showing cloudy all day with very little chance of rain.

So "GAME ON!"

Quick question on this, what is your injecter duty cycle at whatever psi you are running (22 I thought you said)? Are they close to maxed out at all?

lastly is injDC more affected by psi or actual CFM of the turbo or both?

I have not looked directly at the inj DC actually. I will say without the meth, I am sure it would be maxed out.

With the meth I actually pulled some fuel out :D :D :D And told the owner if he let the tank go empty, his wallet was soon to follow.

I can't stress enough the lesson we have learned, and one that has taken me ~4 years to prove to myself.

Tuning is so much more important than parts. Yes parts add, but tuning is so much more of the piece.

Look at Ed, who just ran a 9 on a build that is not that extreme IMO. He is getting there by tuning and adding parts only once he sees a need. Same things with phillip long going 10's on stock block. Being I have been around syty's for a few years now, I remember a "theory" was it would take a bowtie block to go 10's. Now 10's are "common" for our small group.

The same is true for this truck, we actually have more parts on shelf for the truck but have held off just to see what the LEAST amount of parts are required to go 11's. I think the stock turbo will get us there.

How many trucks have big turbo's, intercoolers, etc and still run high 12's on a good day?????????

I can't say how many times

Yea we found that out at about exit 76 on I65...Oh well nice little road trip anyway. Maybe next time?

That sucks! I called Jimmy as soon as I got to the track so he could post that it was closed. We tried to save you guys a trip. The dude at the track said that they would be open next weekend.

Went to Bowling Green last Sat and ran my truck. All runs on pump gas and methanol injection.Best time was:

60' 2.019
330' 5.305
1/8 8.048
mph 89.42
1000' 10.447
1/4 12.492
mph 109.52

The track surface was pretty good but I was just overpowering the track with the tires(Goodyear HP 245/50r16) I have. they are like rocks. It was spinning hard then shifting to 2nd and bogging. Hopefully I can find some softer/bigger tires and get back to the track before it closes!

I have ran as fast as a 1.70 60' before on these tires, but that was before last round of tuning. I think if I can get that 60' better maybe run some real low 12's high 11's.

Stock injectors??

I wish you guys lived up here in CO. Im having a hell of a time getting away from this 14.2-4 crap. Still trying to figure out exactly HOW to tune. It sucks cause there arent many SYTYer's up here and the ones that are dont really seem to be into it. Oh well.

I weighed the truck before with me in it and spare in also. It was 3780lbs! I weigh about 175 lbs. I think the spare and jack stuff weigh 47 lbs total. So "race weight" is about 3725lbs with me.

Nice.

You guys are basically doing what I want to do to a Syclone when I get one. Thanks for the interesting read.

Re: Stock Turbo Truck runs 12.49@109

Getting a fair amount of people asking "WHAT IS TUNING!" via pm's. Figured maybe i can answer some of them for everybody.

Here is a copy of a PM I just sent, that gives high level detail.

"Tuning is everything about the truck. Of course datamaster or scan tool, watching #'s and figuring out what is going on is what most consider tuning. There is so much more though.

We have looked at everything, from how much boost can we launch with, how can we launch with more, how much are tires spinning, will limiting front end help, exhaust flow, what about tranny shifting, can we shift it sooner, later leave in OD, leave in D through traps, intercooler temps, alky injection, when to spray how much, list goes on.

My best advice is to set yourself a goal you want with the truck, and one your bank account can afford. We got this truck in the high 12's fairly easy, after that it has gotten more expensive, with rear end blowing up, 2nd tranny blew last week, etc. You want to play, you gotta pay comes into effect so be ready if that is what you want to do.

It also isn't something that happens overnight, we have about a year and a half of "tuning" now. Granted we don't work on it 5 days a week, but we look at things, talk about them, discuss, think about it, then make changes.

Having a goal in mind and sticking to it, helps.

If someone wanted to go low 12's, I probably wouldn't suggest this exact route, unless you wanted to do something few have done. There are easier ways. Just don't get in the loop I got in before, new parts and bigger stuff is not always the answer to going faster, usually there is a lot of time left is most combinations with proper tuning."

I think a lot of people want a step by step on how to do something like this. It just isn't that easy, every truck is different.

I had 3 trucks over yesterday, all with 50# injectors, not a single one liked the same chips.

Man, there's a lotta truth there.... I have no less than 5 different 50# "base"
chips. And about 3 different stock chips.

For the folks who want an easy answer, take your rig to somebody who knows
how to tune and leave it with them for 3-4 days. That's about as close to
an easy answer as you'll get. Otherwise, be prepared to go through a long
learning process...
