Hello, I need to adjust my stock turbo. I'm only getting 10 to 12 lbs of boost out of it. The rod going to the lever on the bottom of the turbo im guessing is the stock waste gate do I screw it out or in to get more boost?

Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Stock Turbo Adjustment

When your boost over shoots of what you wanted, basically going too short does not allow the wastegate valve to open all the way, it will limit the travel of the wastegate valve, hence will decrease the flow rate of the wastegate.

Try 1/2 turn @ a time, just to be safe.

Is this your bush?
Re: Stock Turbo Adjustment

The rod end nut with the hole in it should be pulled over the wastegate lever. This can be done by pulling the wg lever shut and the wastegate actuator arm need to be pulled just slightly over the wg arm, slide the lock pin in the hole and drive it. Be cautious but you'll know when it over boosts. If it over boosts move rod out accordingly. Ask me how I know? and would you like to see my left arm and the burn scars on it now.if you want call me my number is 763-221-8138. The name is Aaron!

Ok I will give it a shot. Yes using the stock gauge.... I know I know they are not the best but it worked just fine and was reading 15lbs then I rebuilt the motor and now its only showing 10 to 12lbs and it dont feel like it has the power it did before. I didnt do much to the motor just .030 over bore and bigger injectors and some light porting on the heads. Even with just that I thought I would feel more power then before but no it actually feels like a turd compared to before the rebuild.

You don't need to adjust the turbo. I bet the tune is the issue. What size injectors are you using? What chip are you using?

Code what?
FYI the rod does not turn, only the turnbuckle (the thing with the hole in it that goes over the pin) loosen the nut first to make adjustments. Double check your hoses to the solenoid

Re: Stock Turbo Adjustment

I cant remember the size on the injectors. i know its like to sizes bigger then stock. still running stock chip. They told me i didnt do enough to worry about changing the chip

It doesn't work that way. Our trucks with the map based fueling needs to have the chip that matches the injectors. Your truck probably doesn't make full boost because its overly rich.

Re: Stock Turbo Adjustment

Oh really???? I didnt know this. I'm trying to learn about these turbo motors they are a lot different then the old fashioned carb motors.... lol... Well then you are right thats my problem because it is running very rich. I start it in the garage with door open and my eyes start to burn in the first min or so.

Re: Stock Turbo Adjustment

If everything else is stock beside minor porting of stock heads and 0.030 pistons, put back a good set of stock injectors in.

Re: Stock Turbo Adjustment

Here's my advice before you start adjusting the wastegate rod.
#1 Install a real boost gauge.
#2 Connect a data logging program on your truck.
#3 Verify if you have a stock chip, injectors, cat removed/modified.
#4 Check vacuum lines for leaks
