STOCK Timing ?

Recently my syclone has been pulling timing by up to 11 deg when full boost hits around 14-14.5 lbs. At 10lbs it shows no knock on the scantool but once above that it starts to pull and the truck just falls on it face pretty much. Once logged i have not ran it any more untill I can fig out why it does this. The scan tool shows the timing advanced to 24 deg. The base timing is at 0. I am not sure if there is a chip or if it was tuned I have only had the truck for a short time. At part throttle at 10lbs the truck pulls hard nice and smooth but then just bogs down at full boost. Any help you long term syclone owners can give will be great.

Oh and might be a dumb ? But where is the stock chip at and how do you pull it to see if its stock.

I also replaced the plugs/wires/ cap and rotor. The plugs looked pretty good.

ECM is directly above the passenger kick panel. Take pics and post them here, we should be able to ID it.

24 degrees at idle isn't abnormal. 24 degrees at WOT is really aggressive.

It's possible that you have a fuel system issue... runs out of fuel above 10 psi.

So 10 psi is ok, 11 psi isn't? Or 10 psi ok, WOT isn't?

Make sure the wastegate hoses/plumbing are ok, and that the flapper valve isn't stuck.

Do you have a pic or anything for the flapper valve. This is my first turbo car. I am good to go on my gto with nitrous but syclones/turbos and all the stuff with them are new to me.

Also I checked the codes with the scanner and the two that popped up are 43 and 45 which are spark timing malfunction and o2 rich. I may have to change the cap and rotor and check the tming again. Anyone had these codes before and and give me some ideas.

Re: STOCK Timing ?

When you set your base timing did you pull the ignition advance plug by the computer?

No I pulled the plug right behind the cap not the one at the computer. I am going to check the knock sensors next and double check the base timing.. We have the truck running ok but still having the DTC code 43 and 45.

Re: STOCK Timing ?

Is the check engine light on? Or are the codes just stored in the system? Code 43 would be stored if you disconnect the EST wire to set the timing.

the light comes back on after we clear them with the tech force II. When ever I go WOT the knock retard goes up as high as 10-11 and cant fig out why. The wires capn rotor and plugs have all been changed out but still sets the same two codes 43 and 45. I will check the knock sensor and o2 sensors but IDK where the problem is.

Re: STOCK Timing ?

Do you have a service manual that tells you what/where to check to address those codes? That's the first thing you need to do is address the Check Engine Light. It's telling you something for sure! Most of us aren't lucky enough to get a CEL to point us in any direction to figure an issue out.

Yup but still cant get it to go away. I am going to check the timing again today it may not have set it right the first time, not likely but it doesnt hurt to check again. Even though the truck has problems i still love these trucks lol Always been a favorite of mine and always wanted to own one.

Disconnect the the single brown wire under the passenger side under dash cover and go from there. You wanted to check the chip in the ECM anyway so do it at the same time.

Sounds good to me. w to get to the ecm do I just pull the rocker panel or is there more to pull off to get to it. Do you have any pics of where it is.

You just need to remover the plastic cover on the under side of the passanger dash and the passenger kick panel. If you look up underneath you will see the ECM. There's one bolt through the bracket holding it. Remove the bolt and it will fall down to be viewed. All you will need a is a 7mm socket and a philps head screw driver.

Your the winner lol. I re-checked the timing yesterday and it was right back to being off by a crap load. The mark was about 1 1/2 to 2 inches to the left of were it should be. I am not sure how many deg off that is. I will reset the timing today, yesterday I started to during launch but everyone was recalled to work cause of what happened at Ft. Hood.
