stock intercooler hoses

As i'm in the process of putting my syclone back to stock, I've installed the metal coolant lines for intercooler that end by the power steering pump.

Trying to figure out if GM had molded hoses that go to the intercooler and pump, of if they just ran plain heater hose. I've searched and found nothing.

I have this pic of a paper from the GM dealer from years ago. But no part #s.

To the OP: It's 3/4" straight hose. You might want to consider obtaining a preformed 48" hose with a 90º bend at one end for the pump outlet end. The pump outlet is routed to the upper nipple on the intercooler.

Dave hit it right on. 3/4 and preformed 90 bends are your friend.

If you want all the OEM hard lines and hoses we have them available. HTH

Some of the those bends like to kink if you try them with normal hose. I went and found some 3/4" prebent pieces so I didnt get a kink. I had a few of them (esp near the pump ).

I think the general consensus is that the metal coolant lines tent to absorb heat that in turn gets transfered back to the coolant. That's why some guys replace them with 3/4" heater hoses.

Another consideration with original metal lines is the possibility of the presence of internal corrosion. They are steel, and the IC system may not have had adequate corrosion protection over the years. I've seen metal IC lines with pin holes through them, and internal passages completely plugged shut.

(There, atonkler. An example of a hopefully helpful, factual post. Not guessing.)

Dave is dead on. I haven't had Dave lead me wrong, and he's not trying to bump his post count when he's dropping knowledge. The simple fact is, listening to the wrong people is expensive.

I'll pics of how I routed mine: (I think I bought 14-15ft of hose, using some for other projects later.)

He offered to let me steal his truck, keys in ignition, with one caveat, I had to bypass his start kill switch. I could not do it,and when he showed me what it was I realized his true genius.

yeah ive noticed that 90% of his posted are edited or deleted.. very helpful guy, not sure who's the beef with

From what I've seen, most super smart ppl are generally hypersensitive.

Could you imagine going through life trying to deflect all of the stupid shit that you know is incorrect?

I mean you know you're right but nobody will listen because they are stupid?

Everybody has their own opinion.even if they don't know WTF they are talking aboot.

Ok, getting this back on track. Why does the feed go to the upper intercooler hose? I've always thought that you would want to fill from the bottom to push the air up and out of the system, so why fill it waterfall style? I'm obviously missing something in my thinking.

Because you want the 'suction' to be off the bottom of the IC. The IC is the reservoir for the system. Centrifugal pumps will air lock, and stop pumping if the supply of liquid to them contains too much air.

If the upper nipple was the suction side, the IC would have to be brim-full at all times, or the pump would suck air. Because it is not a perfect world, the IC is not always brim-full, so even if the IC level gets a bit low, there is still flow through the system.

The reason I brought it up is that I got it wrong on an installation. Took me a while to figure out why the F the pump kept air locking. I knew I did it right, but finally traced the hoses, and sure enough....

Another tip: On a stock truck (one that has not had the pump hot wired) you can make the pump run by shorting ALDL A&B, and turn on the ignition. The ECM energizes all ECM controlled relays and solenoids (except fuel pump) when put in "check codes" mode.

Re: stock intercooler hoses

Thanks for the tip. I'm re-working my I/C system now and I would have put it backwards if I didn't happen to read this post.

Gates makes them called unicoils and goodyear makes them and calls them ezcoils the goodyear number and part.....

Here's how I routed mine ...right through the passenger side fender....

Then I hooked them up at the pump...
