Stock crank shaft strength.

300whp turbo blazer-
Hello,
I have a 2002 blazer of course a BS motor.

I blew both head gaskets on it with my last turbo set-up (rearmount T70 @ 12psi...) ran like stink for a year on a T04E 60trim but was on its way out when I swapped to the T70.

Anyways I am finally getting around to fixing this problem I have been having with two blown head gaskets and all lol...

I am ordering a new set of heads right now and they will be ported, with bowl work, and the proper maching to fit better valve springs + a 270ahr cam and cometic HG's and ARP head studs to fix this problem (also adding hopefully another 60whp)

The engine will be built eventually with Eagle rods, and Wiesco or JE pistons and 4-bolt mains and a marine MPFI intake manifold

I am worried about the stock crank shaft after 450whp. I know alot of you guys run stock crank shafts over the 450whp number. I am just wondering @ what point does the stock crankshaft become a time bomb.

And will nitride coating or cryotreating the crank truly benefit people over the limits of the stock crank?

Re: Stock crank shaft strength.

I believe 600 at the crank is the general "point of no return", Im sure there will be +/- 50HP depending on who you ask. I believe nitride or cryo treating will buy a little time, but not going to turn it into a steel crank.

Re: Stock crank shaft strength.

Hope you checked the bottom end while you were there. 4.3's don't blow head gaskets easy. They love wipeing out the bearings. Sure hope yours is good.

I agree with what's been said about the stock crank duriblity. At that point you'll need a good block .. .and then a different ECM system.. since you've got no crank sensor anymore ... Ect..
When you get to that level plan on spending some serious money.

I think i've seen your name on blazer/S-series forms or somthing... :)

Re: Stock crank shaft strength.

I would re-evaluate your tune, the headgasket blew for a reason. Strengthing the headgaskets, bolts piston's, etc and the engine will just find the next weakest link. The Crank will hold up as long as your engine isn't detonating itself to death.
