starting problems...

My truck has had problems ever since I have owned it (about a year and a half now). What happens is that when I first start it in the morning it will start right up, idle normal for about 30 seconds, and then die. it will do this a few times if it is really cold outside, and then after the hydrolic shocks start up and stop it runs fine. although if it doesn't warm up for about ten minutes before putting a load on it (putting it in drive or reverse) it will die as well. the strange thing is that on a warm day, it will start and run just fine, but the same deal with putting the load on it. if it doesn't run ten minutes before trying to leave, it dies. after ten minutes though it goes into gear just fine and doesnt have any problems. also, it does it again if it hasn't been started in a few hours. Once in a while though, it starts and runs fine, with no problems at all, and no waiting. No "check engine" light comes on, and no major signs show up...please help!

Re: starting problems...

What you should do first is hook up an inline spark plug tester and a fuel pressure gauge. Start the truck, let it run and and see what you are loosing. You are most likely loosing spark or fuel for whatever reason. Once you determine that then you can go from there. One other thing you can do is check for any vacuum leaks. Hope this helps.

Stab it and steer it

A scan tool would help to see if the temp sensor is sending the correct reading to the ECM. (Different sensor that the one for the gauge on the panel.) Also you could make sure the IAC, and its passages, are clean. Check to be sure the EGR valve is closing all the way. Any other vac leaks?
