Re: starter

Also interested, my starter is headed toward the light as well. The 454 starter sounds like a good idea.

Re: starter

Another option, I went this direction as Hood had them on sale at my time of need (Hood = sytyguy @ Tucker Auto Parts). Not sure if he still stocks/sells them, but would be worth checking. Being able to clock the solenoid where you want it is def. a bonus.

Re: starter

I hope everyone is checking their "purple wire" before replacing starters. A few people here replaced the starter only to find out it wasn't the problem, but instead a 50cent fix. Oh yeah, that was me. FWIW even if you know for sure, i'd fix the wire anyway. It might save your ignition switch too.

Re: starter

I had taken the starter from a spare motor I had for my 97 sonoma for the 4.3 and it worked awesome. I would imagine all of the late model gear reduction starters are pretty similar.

Re: starter

I have a starter I used for less than a month I can sell cheap, still looks new. Upgraded to a mini-torque starter for my built motor.
