Starter relay

Well there isn't one from the factory but it's common to add one. Search "Purple Wire Mod." Typically a relay is added to the starter wiring and sits somewhere on the firewall to get the full voltage necessary to trigger the starter solenoid.

The core issue is that the factory wiring is barely sufficient, and now that your ignition switch is 25 years old and wiring is old and tired, it can't move the 1.21 gigawatts necessary to trigger the starter solenoid reliably.

So, it's probably time to add the relay which is I assume why you're asking where the relay is ... because your truck has a case of the clickies. So, in any case, the answer is "purple wire mod."

And technically the relay (switch TeChNiCaLlY) for the purple wire is in the neutral safety switch.FA2D65F5-BA71-4117-8022-1E425C014C2B.jpeg

I bought one of those painless wiring hot shot kits, or whatever painless calls it, and never had a problem. I don’t recommend the painless one even though it’s working for me just because the top cap of the relay feels loose and cheap like I can just pull it off. I feel like it’ll break in my fingers if I ever need to swap it. Not really great quality.
