Starter Purple Wire ?

Starting to get a click no start once in awhile. I installed the Hot Shot around 3-years ago and wrapped the starter and wires going to the starter in heat wrap and it was working fine all these years until the past week or so. What I want to do is cut the purple wire going into the firewall above the brake booster and I have some 10g wire I want to run to the hot shot relay. The relay already had a larger wire which is wrapped going to the starter. When I originally installed the hot shot I spliced the small purple wire at the solenoid to the small purple wire for the hot shot so the original wire still ran in back of the engine down to the starter. I want to just cut this small wire at the starter and leave it there and just use the newer 10g to run along the firewall to the hot shot.

Is there only one purple wire for the starter above the break booster ? I see one but not sure if this is the correct one.

might not be the only purple but its gonna be the only 10 gauge purple wire in the whole truck

That would be cool if you can located the photo. I have only found one small purple wire so far near the break booster and it looks pretty small. I don't want to mess around with trying to pull the old wire out from behind the engine.

Hey Rick. as you can see. there are three solid purple wires going through the harnest above the brake booster. i was looking threw BG's wiring books and found out this one is the wire you want.

The first pic i pointed out the three Purple wires that are located there. notice the other two are alot smaller gauge the the starter wire.

The third pic is showing my new starter wire. the black wire i added from the starter up to that purple wire. i never once had a problem with a clicking noise after this was done. i ran it totally out of the way of any heat and it worked awesome. the top half of the purple wire with the yellow butt connector on it is the oringal one that goes to the starter. any more quesitons just letme know.

Installed the new 10g purple wire for the starter yesterday and everything worked out real good and no more click. Still using the Hot Shot though.

One note. Don't use any of that spiral wire wrap near the downpipe. I had this on there to keep the wires together and then wrapped this with thermo tech near the downpipe. When I took the thermo tech off, the plastic wrap melted to my starter wires making it real hard to get off.

jegs doesn't list this relay in their latest catalog anymore. you can make one yourself using a 30 or higher amp dc automotive relay (radio shack). the box shows the wire hookups. you may try painless wiring, tel 1 817 560 8324 (texas) as i believe that they made this part. pulling the starter to make the connections is a royal pita and suggest replacing the starter solenoid to make sure no more click click symphony. john.

Ya I was looking in the latest Jegs catalog and didn't notice it but if you go on their site and type in the number of the Hot Shot I gave above it shows up. And yes it is made by Painless wiring. I'm not going to be pulling my selonoid unless it quits. Alot of people didn't like the Hot Shot years ago when a bunch of us started installing them but 4-years ago when I was getting the click click real bad, I installed the Hot Shot and didn't have a single problem with the click in 4-years until recently. Installed a 10g new wire from the harness above the break booster to the Hot Shot and once again, good as new. Wires going to starter wrapped with thermo tech and have to wrap the starter again tomorrow being I took it off a couple of days ago to get at the wires.

rick, thanks to the syty site i found out abt the hot shot relay as i was becoming embarrassed not being able to start at the most inopportune times. i did change the solenoid because the contact disc might have become pitted by the many click clicks and the solenoid could not be taken apart for viewing (the replacement solenoid was made in china).
so now i can turn the ignition key and not worry whether she will or wont! the car that is). john.
