starter problem

I have a ty that sometimes just clicks when the key is turned, some times it will start on the first turn and sometimes it will take multiple turns. I have replaced the solenoid and still no change. I have a new battery cable (positive) that I havent installed yet! The starter has been checked out and worked fine on the testing machine. Before I replace the cable I was wondering if the problem could be the ignition switch? If anywone has had a similar problem I would appreciate hearing from you.

VERY common problem with these trucks. Mine did it the day I picked it up.

Replace the purple wire going to your starter. Install a F**d remote starter relay (any auto parts store - about $15.00) and the standard late model S-10 starter relay heat shield ($5.00 at you local GM dealer). A jumper to your old purple wire terminal on the stock solenoid from the main power lead from the new solenoid.

If your existing starter solenoid is toast, you may need to get a replacement or rebuild the solenoid. (The disks inside get a carbon buildup.)

Do these things and you will not have to think about it again. It's been over 2 years since I did mine and I have not had one problem since.
