Split bell housing

Ok I just wanted to find out some info. About 13 yrs ago I had a problem when dropping in my motor I was tightening the tranny bolts and I don't know if there was something in the locator pin hole or it had a stress crack or what but the bell housing split. Anyways the truck had like 40,000 on it then and the tranny was in perfect working order. I got another tranny and put my other one in the garage where it has been sitting ever since. There is nothing wrong with it besides the bell housing crack it was a California truck and hasn't seen the elements since it was removed. So basically I don't know what to do with it. My uncle is a tranny guy and wants it but says it isn't worth anything because he knows that syclone were made to launch. Do I just give it to him, try to sell it knowing that shipping will cost a ton, or find a case and pay him to do a changeout and build (which I don't really want a built 700). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated I have know idea what to do.
Thanks

Re: Split bell housing

I would take it to a machine shop and see if you can have it welded if posible.

Years ago had a 400 turbo welded in the bell housing. Never had problems with it behind a 454.

Re: Split bell housing

Can you post a pic of the damage? I had a broken (completely broken off) bolt tab welded on a bell housing, at that time I was told that if it was the locating dowel that welding it wouldn't be strong enough....?

Re: Split bell housing

It's not salvageable it split all the way around about an 18" inch long split. Only connected by about 4" inches. I couldn't in good conscience sell it like that and I won't use it so. I did scrounge up another case tho so that is why I mentioned the changeover.

I would be tempted to change out the parts into a good case then scrap the old one.
