Re: Speed sensor

I thought NAV pulled your speed from a GPS?

Its probably one of those switches that wont let you watch DVDs when you are driving.

B Dubb had a mod for his Pioneer DVD/NAV in the Lexus that let us watch movies and whatever while driving. yeah watching Fear and Loathing in Las vegas while you're driving around downtown doesnt make much sense but its fun.... thats why we do it!
It was a hack but it worked.

Re: Speed sensor

I can watch movies when driving that set up is done the issue is that when i use the NAV unit there is a delay becasue it doesnt know how fast i am going. It will tell me to make a left turn at the next intersection but i already made the left about 10-15 sections before. Its like it needs to catch up. I was told that i should connect the speed sensor so it can be more accurate on the distance of the next turn.

So is what Tophatjimmy stated it was correct. I beleive you Tophatjimmy just wanted to make sure.

thanks

Re: Speed sensor

Do you know what type of signal it is expecting?

I would think it would want the buffered output from the DRAC to the dash cluster info.
I have no clue what type of signal the ECM is outputting vs the DRAC.
I bet George knows.
I think he built the DRAC recalibration boxes for the 160 mph speedos.

Re: Speed sensor

I got the infor from www.rostra.com in their tech section. I checked with Directed Electronics ( my usual source of info ) and got nothing.

I think it said the ECM is 2000ppm (pulses per minute) I think most newer nav systems will auto-calibrate.

On the blue plug, one row is "C" and the other is "D" (should be labled or stamped in the corners) then just count the pins.

The VSS is for more accurate tracking. The nav unit uses the info from the GPS and the VSS to more accurately triangulate your position. Plus if you go into a tunnel and lose the GPS signal, the Nav will use the VSS to keep tracking you.

Re: Speed sensor

I appreciate all the help. I will see if i can read the manual to see if it states anything about the speed sensor, like specific output power or something like that. I will post tonight if i get home on time.

thanks everyone.

Re: Speed sensor

Light blue/ black stripe out of the Drac. (C15 on the connector). I'm pretty sure I remember this right. Standard output, any Nav will learn it in a few miles.

Re: Speed sensor

Drac is small module attached to the side of the ecm. Has 6 wires coming out of its plug. Plug has nine terminals but only 6 wires come out. It's sort of a translator for various inputs to the ecm and dash cluster. http://www.tbichips.com/drac/ has a good explaination.

Re: Speed sensor

Just parking this info here so I can find it later. I am trying to use my Holley HP to control my TCC lockup, and I need a speed input.

At tailshaft, there are 40 pulses per revolution
The yellow wire on the DRAC is for cruise control, and it outputs at 80 pulses per revolution.
