OK I dont know jack about stereos.

I want some new speakers. What size do I need for front and back. I want everything to appear stock with no cutting. What sounds good. I bought a sony head unit that will do MP3 and the Xm. Can you do 6x9 in the rear?

Nope 4x6 nin the dash and 4x10 in the rear do a set of kick panels only way to get somewhat good sound out of the sy.

Ken's right. If you really want good sound, you need to scrap the dash location. Highs bounced off glass screws up the sound... That said, decent speakers in the dash will sound much better than the crappy factory speakers. Also, skip the rear speakers. They add very little to the sound, and screw up your imaging.

FYI, I bought Cerwin-Vega 4x6 plates from Best Buy, and the magnets are too big. The passenger side hits on the ECM bracket and pushes the grille up. I've heard that the Kenwood 4x6's fit fine.

Speaker's

I had Eclipse 4x6 speaker's in the dash of my Typhoon and it was a decent upgrade from stock. My father has Polk 4x6 speaker's in the dash and they sound pretty good in his Typhoon. I went with MB Quart component's in the door's and it sound's so much better than the Eclipse's in the dash location. If you are not to picky about car-audio the dash location is just fine, but I would recommend you go with component speaker's in the door's just for the sound quality.

Truckless. For now.
only problem with putting speakers in the doors, no matter how well they are installed, simply by shutting the door, they wear out/get damaged quickly. Especially if you have to close the door hard to get it shut. I would think, being much the same in available space as my old Vette, you could put some good 4x6's in the dash, and put 1 or 2 subs behind the seat. Maybe some tweeters too. There's some good sounding 6" woofers out there, and I'm sure you could go as big as 8"s. I know they make sub boxes to go behind the seats of S-series trucks. I had pioneer 4x6's in the dash, and 2 kicker 8's in the back in my Vette, and with the small space, sounded just as good as my bro's truck with 10 speakers. Just an idea.

Im trying just to use the stock locations for now. I like to keep the truck original looking on the inside.

I have a late model sanoma and I bough some infinity Kappas for it. The were really hi-dollar and they suck. Ive had to have two replaced becuase the cone came un-glued. I think I got screwed on those so I thought I would ask you guys what some good speakers are that would fit in the stock locations with little mods and would sound good.

WHOO and is "good" a relative term when you talk to a bunch of stereo guys.

i've had experience with: Pioneer 4x6's, Kenwood 4x6's and JBL 4x6's. Of all, I think the best bang for your buck is JBL's. Very reasonably priced, and they really sound good. I don't think my bro's had any problems with them either, and he's had them in his truck for at least 3 years. JBL sells some nice 4x6's as components with some crystal clear tweeters as well.

i am not sure what size goes in the rear of the syclone. but i would go with alpine 4x6's in the front and whatever size alpines in the back. get a small 4 channel v12 amp. do listen to speakers in the store they all sound good there. i was not an alpine fan until i heard then in a friends truck and now i am swithing to them. great sound and much cheaper that mb or boston. power is the key so get a big enough amp to really push those speaker (you can always turn the volume down). as far as a sub it is gonna be tough. you could get a custom enclosure or a pre made. this sounds crazy too but you could also get a bazooka brand 6 1/2 sub with a good size amp and it will sound amazing in the cab. no matter what you get, buy a couple of good powerful amps: old fosgate dsm or transana, old lanzaer optidrives, alpine v12, ppi, usamps, orion, phoniex gold.

I believe the sizes are 4x6 in front and 6x9 in back. At least thats what was in my Blazer.

I replaced the fronts with a pair of Infinity reference 4x6's and the rears with a pair of sony xplod 6x9's. I've got a JL 12" W0 sub in the back with a fosgate 200.1 for sub power and an Alpine MRP-T130 for the 6x9's. All controlled with a Pioneer DEH-P740MP head unit.

Fitting the infinities up front took a bit of work, had to modify the grill a bit and drill out a couple holes in the speaker brackets, but I got them in eventually. I had to cut out a bit of the plastic at the bottom of the passenger side speaker enclosure inorder to wedge the speaker down a bit farther.

As for the 6x9's they're just mounted in the stock locations using a piece of carpeted plywood as a booster so they fit in. Just seal around the wood and its as good as the stock install.

As for the sub and amps, I just have them in the truck mounted to the metal flap plate that covers the back seat hinge, though I'd like to put them somewhere a little less visible, its about the best I've found so far.

One tip on the 4x6's up front, if you put in something in the back that can handle alot of bass you might want to find a way to limit the frequencies to the front speakers in order to prevent distortion from pushing too much bass. To fix this on my setup I've just put a pair of 470 and 220 microfarad capacitors in series on the positive wire of each speaker.

I can get a few pictures of my setup if it would help/

The S-pickups have 4x10's in the back. One of the worst speaker sizes ever. In that tiny cab (even in my S-10 ext cab), the rear speakers screw with the imaging more than they add to the sound. I told my cousin that while he was building the system for his new S-10 but he said he was going to use them since he already bought them. The next time I saw him, he said he should've left them out...

I put 2 12's behind the seat of an old (84?) Ranger in an MDF box, and when I get some spare time, I'm going to work on sticking one of my 12's behind the driver seat of the Sy... I'm going to keep the jack, and mount the amp above it... Without any permanent modifications too. =)

If you are going to run a subwoofer (of any size) consider looking at the Boston speakers. I posted the models I was using (http://www.syty.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17436&highlight=boston) for the front. The 6x9 rears I used obviously won't fit (I have a Ty, you have a Sy) but maybe Boston makes some 4x10's that do. Might be worth looking at.

I got the Bostons because they had a very clear, crisp sound, but did NOT try to reproduce bass. I like this because I am running my speakers off my deck (a Sony MP3 BTW) and did not want a little 4x6 trying to produce the deep, distorted bass most speakers try to make. Instead, I added an Infinity powered sub, which compliments the system very well.

The speakers themselves did not fit in perfectly. What I had to do was trim down the "plus" shaped tabs on the speaker grille posts. I simply used a set of wire cutters to trim these 4 little pieces of plastic off the post. By doing this, it allws the speaker to slide all the way up flush to the grille. At that point the speakers drop in with no further modification. However, I had to rotate the speaker over the glove box to get it to fit (so they both have the tweeter on the left, the speaker on the right) which means the "imaging" is not super-competition perfect. Can I tell? Nope. The only problem with my set up is that the grilles in the dash bulge up a little bit. Not much, and not more than any ten-year-old truck might already do.

Anyway, if you are not getting a sub, well, god help you, because the speaker setup in these trucks sucks for low frequency reproduction. :D
