Got a set of GAS 6,5" that I came across dirt cheap.
Some one got pictures of a project if installing 6,5" speakers in the doors?

Re: Speakers in the door panels

I'm hoping to have mine done by the Nats. I suppose if I weren't on the computer I could have them done. I think mine are only 5 1/2 - but there should be room for 6 1/2".

yeah i've done several 6 1/2 install inthe doors of s10s. normally we make a panel out of wood fit it to the lower door. and then we carpet it. we did do one of cherrry that we varnished afterwards, lookd really good with the rest of the wood kit

Re: Speakers in the door panels

Garry, do you just cut out the lower part of the doorpanel and replace it with MDF wood?

Found some installations at cardomain.com

Re: Speakers in the door panels

If you take the door off you'll see little melted heads on the back side of the lower panel cut those off and you can remove the map pocket carpeted section and still leave the bottom of the door.Which i then screwed/glued my mdf panel to.I fiberglassed a pod facing up and back a little then covered it with black vinyl looks great sounds even better
I used Focal 6.5 components.Great speakers.

i pretty much do exactly what wrx2typhoon said. except we cut holes in the door sheet metal instead of building out from the door

Re: Speakers in the door panels

I would also suggest getting the new door clips from gm they're yellow and hold very tight this truck is rattle free now.I also cut a hole in the sheetmetal still needed about a 1/4" of clearance.

Do you have some part numbers for the clips? If I remember right their are two sizes, I can find one of the part numbers but not the other. One of them is 3977775

I was able to find the different part numbers, but does anyone know how many of each I need?

yeah... that bottom panel with the pocket, its kinda like it has tabs that go through the main door panel and then GM melts the tabs with a press or something to get them to stay on... i used a heat gun on those "tabs" one at a time and got each one really hot, then gave a lil tug on the lower panel and eventually it comes off... kinda of a pain in the ass, but definitely better than cuttin the whole bottom half of the panel off... i suppose you could use a drill to get the tabs off too...

note: once you put make a new panel out of MDF and put the speaker on the door, stock up on those door panel fasteners... i go through them like theyre goin outta style... the extra weight of wood and speaker causes the fasteners to "strip" and they dont stay in the door after you close it a couple hundred times. i guess thats the price you pay to have good sounding speakers, instead of that 4x6 nonsense in the dash... two thumbs up to GM for creating that ingenius idea

Re: Speakers in the door panels

I think its 8 or 9 clips per side,I also left an area behind the speaker to run a screw through the mdf into the sheet metal, Takes the force of the added weight.
