Re: Speaker wiring help

you could hook a spare speaker up to the wires and see how the cone moves, it should move outward for the most part if hooked up correct, sorry i dont know the color codes

Here is the diagram for the 91 Syclone....

Illumination Gray & brown
Left Front + Tan
Left Front - Gray
Right Front + Dark green

Re: Speaker wiring help

Digging up an old post here.

On sytyauthority they have the opposite for speaker colors than what WannabaTY posted above:
Right Front + light green
Right Front - dark green
Left front + grey
Left Front - tan

I compared my aftermarket wire harness to the connections on the stock harness end and verified this. So the aftermarket harness would have to be incorrect for the above connections to be wrong. Just thought I would add some more confusion to the speaker wiring. I do think this is correct though...

YES.. very true and I stand corrected.
I looked it up in an old GM install manual from back inthe day when I did stereos and alarms.

That means:
RF = LT GRN +
RF = DK GRN -

LF = TAN +
LF = GRAY -

RR = DK BLUE +
RR = LT BLUE -

LR = BROWN +
LR = YELLOW -

I agree, with all except Tan is LF neg. This is annoying. Why can't we all get it right for sure?

Re: Speaker wiring help

What about red wire? Nobody mentioned that. You can see it in this picture next to yellow and grey. Also I noticed there are two grey wires and two tan wires on the stock plug. wtf :rant:

Hmmm... got me on the double wires. Is your truck a '93? I can take the radio out of my TY and see if it has the double wires as well. That plug looks like it might be for the glovebox light or possibly the ashtray light...I think thereis a light there anyway.

About the color combo post I did above, that came right out of a GM install manual. Why not just take the speaker out and look to see which one is connected to + unless... you don't have factory speakers.

Shoot me an Email if you still need help and I'll go take my factory radio and speaker out to check which is which. I am 99.9% positive that what I posted is correct though.

Not sure if this helps any but....

I have a 91 syclone. I am putting new speakers in so I could just check that when I replace them. I didn't think of that.

Last night a checked the red (pink?) wire with a meter. The voltage does not change with ignition on or off. My guess is it is for a power antenna, but who knows.

Others I checked with a meter are orange is definitely 12V all the time. Yellow is 12V when igniton is on. Brown is supposedly illumination so maybe the grey (next to yellow 12V) is also illumination or dimmer.

Re: Speaker wiring help

Grey and brown both are 0V with lights off and 10V or 12V with lights on. They also fluctuate with the dimmer going up or down so I'm just using the grey as dimmer and leaving brown disconnected.

I also pulled my front speakers and the stock speakers are marked A and B not + and -. I wrote it down what color was connected to what terminal on the speaker, but it doesn't really matter because who knows if A is + or - so I won't even bother causing more confusion. I'm just going to rewire the fronts for the new speakers anyway so I can get it right. I only need a couple feet of wire.

My new Polk db461p fronts barely fit. I have to trim the right side opening just a bit to get them in because the plate hits the lip of the opening.
