Re: SPA gauge trouble code

I have two of them in my truck:

IMG_0605.sized.jpg

"Autometer mechanical boost and SPA dual gauges (boost, trans temp & fuel pressure, intercooler temp). Also, gauge power switches (to reset max stored values in SPA's) and TCC lock up switch."

Did you just install the gauge? The red LED is to alert you that a value has been exceeded (over boost, maximum temperature exceeded, etc) set forth by you, in the settings. I bought my gauges eight years ago and the instructions were kinda vague for a $240 gauge ...

came with the ty. i also have the boost/egt. which egt is not installed. not sure but the sending unit might be bad on mine. called up SPA and was told about 100 doll-hairs for a new one. the oil temp is also screwy from time to time. i have the first set that came out so they don't have the color option. mine are just like yours black face with green screen. the newer style can change back-light colors.

Re: SPA gauge trouble code

Heh, you're in the same boat as me then. The pressure sensor on both of mine went South some time ago and I wasn't about to drop another $200+ on two new sensors when I already have $500 in two gauges . Never had a issue with the temperature senders on mine. I have since removed them from my truck and now have two Autometers in their place. One for boost and the other being transmission temperature. My WBO2 will occupy the third slot in my pillar pod.

I got a chuckle when I spoke to the "bloke" at SPA in about the problem that I was having with my boost gauge. I told him that at 10 psi my SPA read 2 psi low and at 15 psi it read 4 psi low while my mechanical Autometer was dead on. He kept asking me what type of calibrated pressure source I was using to test it and I told him my Mityvac. He had absolutely NO idea what I was even taking about and kept insisting that my testing method was inaccurate. Since he didn't even know what it was, that HAD to be the problem . People like that are the reason why I'm medicated...

Re: SPA gauge trouble code

i have the SPA gauges as well.. oiltemp/oilpress. the backlights went south in a few weeks. added a switch and 2 sender for the temp, so i can read engine oil and tranny oil temp.
quality of these gauges are a bit crappy if you ask me. the -58 seems like a sender going bad. altough they still work for me

Re: SPA gauge trouble code

sorry for jur esperience. the guy i spoke to was rather nice, but maybe it was because i didn't have a complex problem such as yours.

the guy sent me a copy of the owners manual via email. he told me the -fl has to do with a disconnected ground. they are not owner serviceable. you have to send them in to be serviced for a said price. doesn't compute with me so i disconnected mine and opened mine up with a grind off wheel. all wires were broken. i soldered all back together and it fixed the -fl (i guess the -58 works in conjunction with the -fl?) for a while it held but with all the vibrations i guess it came loose. i guess i'll have to repeat or....?

was thinking about changing to autometer also as these SPA's seem to be alot more problematic then any other gauge i've ever owned. just didn't know if i am suppose to go with mechanical or electric or if it even makes a difference. not even sure what to replace the gauge with?
