Sound Deadening Material

I just got my truck back after being at my friends shop for a number of years. It has the interior out of it right now. I took out the interior due to the radiator leaking and it making a mess all over the rug. The rug was also old and crappy so I tossed it and plan on buying a new rug. Before I put the rug back in I would like to put some sound deadening in the truck.

I'm looking for a little help with this. I've never done it myself but have seen it done by others. I think I would like to go with a peel and stick type of material and I'm wondering if I need to do the whole truck or just certain areas that are more probe to noise than others?

I'm also looking for help as to which product to choose. I'm looking for an affordable product and something that will last a long time.

Let me know what you think and what you have worked with in the past. I really don't want to put the interior back in before this is done.

Thanks,
Nick

Good old Dynamat works well. The last time I used any it was R-blocks brand and it worked well, just like Dynamat Extreme. I have thought about the new spray stuff if I had it do it again. There are some inexpensive products out there if you shop around. I like the thick Butyl type. It does a good job of absorbing those nasty resonate/rattling frequencies. It is also one of those things that you cant really have too much, but one good layer at 75% coverage would do well. You could do more, and a second layer, if you wanted, it wont hurt anything but the weight of the vehicle.

Let me see what I used in mine. Similar to Dynamat, but about an 1/8 of the cost. Bryan was in my ty up in carlisle, and commented how solid and quiet it was.
My issue is with Dynamat is it is VERY expensive. There is material out there (as long as not asphalt based) that works just as well.
Easy to put on, works great.

Bringing this back to life...
After looking at several items (I was really impressed with the second skin, but shipping to Pittsburgh was 1/3 the cost of the item),
Dynamat is a standby, but I was researching,
A lot of corvette guys (C5) use this item called Frost King (Yes, for duct work) Open cell foam, aluminum backed 1/8" thick, non hazard (no asphalt), very light weight. Best for a 15'x12" section is $6!
Now, it will not be anywhere close to Dynamat (I am still installing that in sections, but for the price, and its high properties of insulation, I think it sounds good

So what did you use in your truck?

Re: Sound Deadening Material

When i built my Rx7 a lot of guys were using lizard skin for sound deadening.

Some people don't like the dynamat stuff because of the process of removing it and the weight of it. Its a total pain in the ass to remove.

I used RAAMmat, and their ensolite. There are now more products out to choose from other companies. However at the time SecondSkin, RAAM, and Dynamat were tops. This was before I put the foam layer on top. Did the doors as well. Sure makes a big difference when it was all done.

Thanks for the reply Blazin. Any idea how much it cost to do the whole truck with RAMmat?

Re: Sound Deadening Material

I used about 2 rolls of deadner, and maybe 2 or 3 yards of the foam. I doubled up the deadner in some of the larger flat areas. So it was probably about $500 (cad) when I did it, after shipping, glue (stick on foam wasn't available) roughly.
