Solid motor mounts

Does anybody have any recommendations for a heavier duty solid motor mount? I recently bought QWK TWUK from DAVEP. The solid mounts are broken and the fan is hitting the lower shroud.

Over the years, I’ve gone through several sets of these JSM mounts on different SyTys, And they seem to all crack in the same spots (ears, and across the logo. just curious if there’s anything out there that might be a little better. Are the SBC ones the same bolt pattern?

Has anybody tried these Moroso ones before.?

I think this is the fifth set of JSM solid mounts that I’ve seen broken over the years. They tend to crack across the logo, and the ears tend to crack off of the plate. Especially on the driver side. Usually the motor drops just enough for the fan to hit the shroud. Jeff has been pretty cool over the years. He even replaced one set of mine for free. But at this point. I’m tired of changing motor mounts. And want something a little more reliable for my daily driver.

Have you looked at these. I believe others have used these in the past from what I've read. I bought a pair, but have not gotten around to seeing if they fit yet. I'm pretty sure there are a few other threads on here that talk about them as well.

If I were to replace mounts again, I would give these a try.

Weill… I couldn’t find the stock specs on our MM. so I ordered two different sets. The first one did not fit. The second one will be delivered on Tuesday.
Because my mounts were so bad. I decided to fix the JSM ones for now. It was a royal PITA. I don’t remember them being this hard in the past. Maybe it’s because I started in the drivers side. IDK. But I got them out, welded up, And back in.
I’ll look into JTR ones, They look like the best option. I let you guys know on Tuesday if the other ones I ordered look to be a good option as well.

Thank you all for your help.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the mounts. "Motor mounts" have been a frequent topic of discussion on here since 1998, when I joined. Comes up all the time.

The original Chevrolet (not aftermarket) mounts were good for 10-15 years in stock street driven trucks. Yes they were $100 each in 2000, but they were durable. Those haven't been available for at least 15 years, and the current Chineesium "Atlas" ($20 each, what does one expect?) lasted less than a week in that Ty.

I never liked the idea of solid mounts because of the increase in Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH), but everyone said "no problem. I don't feel a thing." Bull Shit, when I finally had no choice but to install the JSMs in that truck I immediately noticed a huge increase in NVH, particularly at idle, in gear. I got into the habit of popping it into neutral while waiting at a light.

I feel that the solid mounts fail from metal fatigue BECAUSE they are "solid". There is no allowance for vibration and harmonics absorption in the rubber of the mount. Everything being solidly bolted together, and not in stress-free alignment either, the metal is going to crack much quicker. I've never seen a stock rubber mount's steel components fracture from fatigue. The fact that everything is all forced together, solidly, is why they break so quickly. Make them out of 1/4" plate, they will still crack.

I like the JTR kit that Phil linked, and that's the one I was referring to in our phone conversation. Changing the frame pads is a royal PITA. Because I work smarter, not harder, I remove the lower A-arms for access. That truck's suspension was all apart in 1998, and the knuckles were off for the brakes in 2017. It will come apart. If you want to do it here on my hoist let me know.

It’s fine. It’s just the nature of these trucks. I agree with feeling more vibration with solid mounts. And it’s funny that you mentioned putting it in neutral at a light, because I do the same thing. As far as Jeff’s mounts go. I like them. I think they’re a great idea. But I would love to see them updated with larger welds on the ears and NO JSM cut out through the mount. I feel that if he made these two modifications. It would make his mounts last longer on daily driven trucks.

Pic of passenger side. Driver side was almost in four pieces. But you can see how it cracks all the way through the logo.

The moroso solid mounts can be welded to the crossover after the bolts are cut off from the factory mounts. Race cars of all types have used solid mounts for years, they are not prone to breaking. The fancy looking solid mounts in question here are just not built strong enough.

I don't give a fuck what anyone uses for mounts. But thanks for your 2 cents in a 3 month old thread.

The OP in this thread has moved on from broken motor mounts. He crashed it.
