Socal Trucks Needed For Exhaust Prototype

Guys and Gals,

Due to the increasing demand for a high quality, readily available, bolt in syty exhaust system, RPM is finally manufactoring its own line of performance exhaust systems for the typhoon and syclone.

Race Proven Motors is looking for a Syclone and Typhoon in the Los Angeles area with a 100% factory exhaust to prototype its new stainless steel catback exhaust system. If your truck has an unmolested downpipe and factory catalytic converter, that may also work, but it must be untampered with in the stock location so we can get the exact measurements.

We will be needing your truck for 1 full day, and in return will provide you with a FREE stainless steel cat back exhaust system already installed on your truck!

The cat back system will consist of a 2 or 3 piece 16 ga. 304 stainless mandrel bent pipe set, with polished stainless turbo muffler and exhaust hangers/ hardware.

Please contact Mike @ 818-201-5352 or email mike@raceprovenmotors.com if you are interested.

below is a recent prototype for the syclone exhaust:

HMMMMMMM........ I'm not sure if I have the original dp and converter, have to check. I know I have an ATR muffler, but I bought it with the exhaust already done so I don't know what I have. I plan on coming by the shop in a week or two, to see about getting some work done. Or just checking it out....LOL....and some vehicles.

Doesnt a "regular" S-10/Jimmy cat back system bolt in? It *looks* the same (after the cat). I guess the biggy is that it wouldnt be 3".

I belong to the zr2 forumn and we had the same offer there. A few of the members were wondering why they would be making headers/exhaust systems for trucks that have been around for so long and gm doesn't manufacture anymore.I still thinks it's neat that there are companys out there looking to stay in the market for specialty vehicles.

Re: Socal Trucks Needed For Exhaust Prototype

well it looks like we may have a typhoon volunteer from San Diego, and a syclone from Riverside. Our biggest consern is that the factory cat is in the stock location so we can have an accurate fixture for future trouble free installations.

We will touch base on tuesday and try to set up a time when it is convinient for you all.

As for why we decided to manufactor exhaust systems, 15 years after the release of these trucks. For one, oem and aftermarket support is pretty much non existant. As trucks get older, and sold to different owners, often times parts fail and/or get replaced with the wrong parts. We see so many trucks come in with flowmaster mufflers, and as a result spend hundreds of dollars with others shops trying to diagnoise why their truck runs so poorly. Come to find out the "high performance" muffler actually increased the backpressure so much it literally melts and cloggs the catalytic converter, greatly hindering performance, gas milage and driveability. So we figured there are still trucks out there with rusted factory exhaust, the wrong exhaust, or just wanted increased performance and sound for their truck.

Re: Socal Trucks Needed For Exhaust Prototype

just wanted to mention I got my custom stainless exhaust done by Race Proven about 6 months ago and it came out great!

These guys are high quality, the welds and design were really good and the stainless was heavy gauge not the aluminum foil thickness crap.

It was done at a cost of $550+, which is a lot of money but well spent for a quality job.

Whoever is having this done for free is getting an amazing deal!

If you prefer a system without a muffler i suggest starting a group purchase, otherwise we will have to re program and set up the machine making your exhaust "custom" and most likely offsetting the price of the muffler anyways. Sounds stupid, but time is money and anything unique will cost more money.

As for the price, nothing is set in stone yet however our goal is to be consistant with past vendor pricing for syty exhaust systems. These will be the first exhaust systems we have mass produced, so once we are finished building the kits we will divide up the time, and add in the materials to come up with a price.

If there are people who want to start a group purchase, this will definately save money b/c now we can guarentee "x" amount of kits being sold, otherwise we are just guessing at anticipated future sales, and increased inventory which comes at a premium.

Re: Socal Trucks Needed For Exhaust Prototype

What are the chances of doing this in Aluminized Steel with no muffler? Most of us either don't need a muffler (cat only), already have a muffler that we like (these have not been new trucks to replace a whole system off the dealer show room for some time now) or may need a muffler but might not want the one your kit comes with. In my case I won't and don't have to run a cat but a simple "test pipe" takes care of that and have a new muffler already. I would think that with so many mufflers available on the market that it would be better to offer the kit minus muffler and let the customer add the one you offer as an option if they like that one. Tastes in mufflers are like wine and women, every one likes something a little different or a different set up.

As to doing it in steel or Aluminized steel, thats is no big deal. Stock change only, no re-program required and may make a very price point wise kit that would have better sales. Stainless is spendy and not always required IMO. I'm like most guys in that I will pay for it if it's needed but $1,200 for headers, $550+ for a cat back w/ muffler that I may or may not need or want plus freight ect., ect. That's banging $1,800 + for an exhaust! Then on top of that, a lot of us don't live in an area that every other shop has a good welder that can do or is even set up for stainless when it comes time to do a little mod on the muffler, pipe, turn down, cutout, duel tips or what ever, any muffler jock at Midas in your home town U.S.A. can work with steel. Just a thought, I know you gotta do whats best for your shop but sales may be better if it's more installer friendly and "what the customer want's". Just my :2cents:

Re: Socal Trucks Needed For Exhaust Prototype

There's always going to be a handful of people who want something special, and unfortunately we can't accomidate everyone. I'd say if you have future plans of "hacking" up the system, you should just save time and money and have that person build it from scratch. A test pipe, or cutout is before the exhaust anyways, and if you have plans of a dual exhaust, or turn down why even waste your money to begin with.

The more options we offer the more expensive each system will cost. When we buy mass quantity of one muffler, couple hundred feet of one type of stainless, etc etc. you get a price break that can be passed on to the consumer.
