slipping trans.

I went out tonight and got to race another SY. well actualy he killed me about 4-5 times. I noticed my trans was taking a long time to go from 1-2 @ WOT. part throttle its fine. After he adjusted the TV cable for me and I drove home it still did it. And now the shift is not as hard. trans temps never got above 210* while racing but on the way home it jumped up to 220* then droped down to 200*. I noticed twice today when I was going 20mph and I WOT it would not take off hard like it was not downshifting? Any ideas.

Re: slipping trans.

sounds like it's time for a rebuild. anything above 170 or so and I would be very concerned.

Re: slipping trans.

The trans has 4k on a 3k$ build. If thats all these trans are good for then I wont rebuild it. I will save the money for a 4l80e. I do drive a bit hard, but only have boost launched my truck 4 times in a year. Normal driving it feels fine but when I am wot it lags shifting into gears and when I stomp on it from a roll it will rev high and take a few seconds to go? TC is new with the trans rebuild. The fluid looks and smells fine. My temp probe is the fluid comming out of the trans. I was told up to 210* was ok?? normal city driving and I see 200*. normal highway its around 170*

Re: slipping trans.

Took it to Aamco. They said the trans is shot. They want 1600 for a standard rebuild. This sucks. looks like my truck will sit for a while.

Re: slipping trans.

Are you sure that the TV cable is adjusted properly? Sounds to me like it may be too loose.. Also are you running a tranny cooler??

Re: slipping trans.

Just installed the trans cooler. Woried about if I f-up something. I posted and check 4 times if I did the lines correctly with the remote filter. It all looked right. I will check once more. The said its not the TV cable. I adjusted it 3-4 times and drove with the same results. I am not sure about Aamco either. The only good thing was they are 1/2 mile from my house. Its just a stock build so it wont last long. I might just park it for a year and buy the stuff for a new trans slowly.

I do feel sorry for you but if you didnt use one of the expoerts on this board for this build then I'm not surprised in your results. if you spend that much on a tranny it's got to come with some kind of warrenty. 3k is about double what it should cost and you say it's stock?

I think he means the 3K build lasted 4K miles and the quote from AAMCO is 1600 for a stock rebuild.

Again its what the past owner told me. Not 100% sure how accurate it was. He also said he put new upper and lower ball joints but only the uppers were done?

Aamco said 1600 for stock parts and they will reuse any good parts that exceeds theirs.

Re: slipping trans.

I just wanted them to look at it. I would never trust any shop to do a trans build on the Sy.
