SHould I put black RTV on trans pan in addition to gasket?

I realized my leak was most likely because of a bad trans gasket. I took the stock pan off, and the paper style gasket that was on there was pretty unimpressive.
I bought a TCI pan 9 xtra 2 quarts. Yes, I know I have to trim the front of the pan to give the inspection plate room.
My question is do people just put the new gasket on, or do you run a bead of black RTV first on the pan, and then put the gasket on. Also, stock torque convertors are what color? Mine is black with a "DEF" written on it.... No clue...
Thanks

No, gasket only. Can't answer the TC question. Unsure. I've never had to trim a TCI pan, I've installed at least a dozen or more

Hmm wondering if it was for the 4qt extra pan for trimming

Both my stock Converters had a 7 or multiple 7's all around the one side.

I bought a TCI filter with reusable gasket and the gasket is nice and beefed up.( paper gasket included with pan in box is like paper thin) I also have a large TCI cast trans pan I never used. They have to be trimmed??

TCI pan # 378000
TCI filter/gasket #378500

I have seen a few transmission pan gasket leaks because the bolts are over torqued.

I am never a fan of paper gaskets. If the options are paper or Rtv I feel Rtv wins every time.

With the cork and rubber gaskets and Duraprene gaskets, torque only once to 65 - 75 inch pounds. Make sure pan gasket area is clean and "flat". DO NOT use any type of sealer here. I started doing this over 33 years ago. Rarely had a pan gasket leak and I mean rarely. Once the top hat seals came out, leaks of all kinds went away.

When I put the tci pan on my previous syclone I was told by a friend who is a mechanic to put a thin layer of grease on the pan to hold the gasket in place. I did and I never had any issues with leaks. My pan required no trimming.
