shocks

After installing 2" lowering blocks on my ty it seems to bottom out. There is plenty of room b/w the axle and bump stops, so I figure it's the shocks. Should I replace them with stock size or is anyone using something different with blocks?

Re: shocks

I've owned the truck for 4 years. It has billstens, so I don't know how old they are. When I did lowering blocks on my dakota, I used lowering shocks. Just wondering if people changed thier shocks when using blocks and if so are you guys using stock shocks or something else?

My Sy was lowered 2" w/ bilstiens for over 150k miles w/ no problems.

I would say you either have bad shocks or another problem....

Re: shocks

I've been researching my next shock purchase. I've had the bilstien's on the stock ride height. Now have Koni's on a 2" drop which I am thinking about replacing.

Since I have Belltech's drop springs and larger front/rear sway bars, its time to look at shocks. The Nitro Drop 2 shocks look nice and would be valved for a dropped application. Also thinking of a Shockwave (shock/airbag) but have not heard that much about them.

Anyone have either of these on their truck?

Re: shocks

I have cheapo $60 air shocks and 2.5" blocks.. when i want to be low i air them down, when i want to drive the truck and prevent bottoming out i put in about 100lbs of air pressure..

If I had the $, i'd do an airbag setup in the rear.. I got tired of bottoming out with the kyb monomax shocks all the time. Keep in mind, NJ roads suck horribly

Re: shocks

If you have blocks, you can run stock shock size. They should never bottom out. This is because the bottom u-bolt plate stays at the same height with blocks and thats where the shocks attach.

If you have lowering springs, the u-bolt plate changes height and you will need shorter shocks. With my Belltech springs, I only have 2" left before my KYB shocks bottom out.
