Shifting points

After installing 2800 stall TQ – what shifting point should I set? Is it better shift before stall speed (2800) or after?

Thanks

Did you record what it was shifting at before? Your stall doesn't really determine shift point. There is a "side effect" that a really high stall converter can raise shift points slightly on its own but other than that don't do anything. Your engine still makes its power at the same rpm as it did before. The higher stall converter is supposed to help keep the engine spinning in the powerband. That's why some people have seen wheel spin after installing a high stall converter without even launching it.

depends on your motor. but if you have a stock motor then as blake said I wouldnt touch it.

Thanks,
Good answer – wrong question; let me recoup.
Transmission was rebuilt/beefed-up at same time TC was installed. I have Air to Air I/C from Mike Lee installed, also I got turbo ported. The guy who did turbo estimated 750CFM output. There is no way for me to conform this flow rate, but so far I was getting full boost at 85 MPH – no complain there.
I haven’t record shifting before transmission work, but I know it is much higher now, around 3200. I don’t like it, and taking it back to transmission place – isn’t convenient for me.
Can someone check stock shifting points (RPM) for me, please?
Could you guys tell me or point to adjustment instruction?

Thanks in advance.

What is 3200?
Part throttle? Full throttle?
WOT shifts occur approx 4600 to 4800 rpm.
3200 is very low and your complaining it's high??
Are you talking about stall or shifts?
Part throttle shifts are mainly a function of TV vs governor.
Here is a good description I found:

The governor controls shifting points relative to actual driving speed. The governor works in conjunction with the TV valve do determine the best gear for a given acceleration and driving speed. The governor weights move out linearly away from the governor as speed increases. This causes more pressure to be seen at the shift valves. Once the pressure is great enough to override the opposing spring pressure behind the next shift valve, a shift occurs. At low speeds, a low amount of pressure will suffice to 'hold' the gear. This also results in smoother shifts. At higher speeds, however, more pressure is required to hold the gear properly - and again, this is achieved by increased pressure with increased speed. Similarly, the throttle valve (TV) can override the governor's gear choice. Suppose at a given speed the governor should be in 3rd gear. If the peddle is pressed down enough(thus, pulling the TV cable) the TV will allow opposing pressure against the shift valve to either maintain the current gear or even downshift as appropriate into a lower gear.

Don't mean to sound like a dick but you might have to figure out a little more of what your problem is and describe it a little better. It's easy for you cause your sitting in it

I had a decent description of shift points on here before and it was in the vault. Don't know what happened to it since the change.
If your talking about part throttle shifts:
Throttle greater than 20%
1-2 12 to 16 mph
2-3 about 23 mph
3-4 about 43 to 44 mph
This is assuming proper TV cable operation(no shimming, cutting, etc)
Does that help?

Good point,
WOT shifting is fine, the partial throttle shifting occurs at around 3200,

Is there a easy way to adjust it down?

What are your MPH shift points? Don't look at your rpm.
Give it about 20% throttle and write down 1-2, 2-3,3-4.
At part throttle, shift points are a product of TV vs governor and is recognized as more of a MPH point than a RPM point. Guys will refer to RPM shifts only when talking about WOT.
Let us know what you find.
When you do this, make sure you are using the baseline adjustment of the TV(the way EVERY website on the internet tells you how to do it). I think sportmachines.com has a video of it. You can adjust it a click or two but any more and it will pull out of adjust at WOT.
