Shifter Button Stuck Down

So, this is a new one...

My shifter button only pops up when the trans is in park, and then (almost) only when I tap on the side of the knob. In any gear but park, the button is stuck down. Obviously that means hitting the shifter forward or back will allow it to move forward or back, and that's just not cool! I have searched around some here and on several Corvette :syty: sites, but all I'm finding are people that have their shifters stuck in park, but not the same I'm having. It does not feel like it's a lubrication issue when I press down the button to get it out of park, but more like a broken something or other issue. I have not it apart yet to look for a reason, but I'm hoping to get some insight from you fine folks, so I don't have to talk to Corvette people.

Just the man I wanted to respond! I'll check that in the morning. Thank you Dave!

Well, it is indeed the spring. I'm not sure if it's broken though, since it's completely missing. I searched with a magnet, but after 22 years, I think it simply vanished. :)

Re: Shifter Button Stuck Down

I was able to get one at a local hardware store and got it all fixed up. Thank you very much Dave! Seriously! Taking the top plate off was a good excuse to really clean the shift boot and indicator though. That makes me feel pretty good.

That spring you have pictured would be perfect too. It looks almost exactly like what I bought.
