Is there a place where you can get a skinnier shift knob? Because everytime I have to take my center plate off it scratches the leather head on the shifter, and I have to stretch the plate to get it off and on

does the knob itself come off? or do I have to unbolt the entire thing from the plate at the bottom?

no the knob itself will come off, use a small flat tip screwdriver and remove the button and you will see a snap ring under there that is holding the knob on remove the snap ring and the knob will slip right off.
