Shift Kits ---

I wanted to ad a shift kit but when I searched I kept hearing " a shift kit is usually a downgrade to these transmissions ". Is that true and why? If not , what brand are you using and do you recommend it?! What other mods to the tranny are beneficial besides adding like a 2600 stall/converter ( for a daily driver) ?! Thanks ---

Well that is true, I just thought there might have been a "performance" kit out there to upgrade a little.... you do have a good point though ---

no, safety mods is what you want, deep tranny pan, ext. oil cooler.

ditto, don't F$$$ around inside the pan. just change the fluid and get the biggest pan and cooler you can afford.

Also, temp gauges can be helpful in preventing damage by giving you a heads-up on how toasty things are getting. Another safety bit that will physically protect the transmission itself is a front propshaft loop.:2cents:

You guys rock....big pan and cooler is where I am at, lol. Who sells the best pan out there? I searched Yahoo for SY parts and couldnt find a decent looking shop I would trust, THANKS ---

TCI has the best pans, they are cast, add 2+qts depending on which on eyou get and also add strength to the cast bc of their regidity and thickness.

Big thing if you MUST go with a shift kit. Transgo's comes with an orange spring for the 3-4 shift valve. Do NOT use it. It will completely screw up 3-4 part throttle upshift......like no upshift till 65 mph.

Search for S10 parts, then. They share more parts than not.

Gilbert is an aftermarket front driveshaft. It is much better than stockers,rebuilt stockers or even dynotek. I have ripped up all the listed ones. I do not know of anyone having trouble with a Gilbert!

I have installed the B&M and Transgo shift kits, the Transgo is much more extensive and through shift kit. The B&M was a joke, it barely address the valve body.

Anyways if you have a original SyTy valve body leave it alone.

If you are mechanically inclined, you can do a .500" TV boost valve and a billet 4th servo.
The .500" will increase pressures slightly and the 4th servo will help your band live longer at WOT and freeway driving. Other than that, you shouldn't do anything unless it involves a teardown.
