Just wondering...for those who have shaved their own roof rack - how did you do it. What method/technique did you use to fill all the holes.
I have a way that i came up with this weekend, but want to see what others have done.
Personally...I decided to weld all the holes shut. I stripped the rear interior as much as necessary
Then had my trusted sidekick hold a flat piece of brass against the holes outside of the truck as i welded the holes shut. This seemed to cut down the amount of flattening grinding needed on the outside of the truck afterward.
One problem with welding from the inside of the truck, is that some of the holes are obstructed by the roof strenghtening/bracing towards the rear (the second to last screw holes). So i welded these from the outside without any brass backing to control the fill.
So when all said and done...it took way longer to strip the interior than to weld the holes. But at least no burnt headliner or scorched carpet/seats.
so is this what others have done? Or did you just stick some gum underneath and skim some bondo up top? Or what? Just curious.
