SGT Steering column help

So since I bought an almost stolen truck, I'm forced to rebuild my steering column. I started on this task but I am running into a few issues and guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have removed the housing for the ignition and turn signal assembly, but since a thief that was terrible at his job worked on this column there is alot more broken. I need to get the lower housing off but I am not sure how. The second picture is where I am at now.

Re: SGT Steering column help

To get past that point, you need the 'tilt column pin puller' tool. $10 from Schmucks/ auto parts. You'll need the torx socket set also. Pull tilt pins, slide housing off, remove torx bolts and lower plate, and the shaft should come out. I've never had to disassemble past that, so I don't know if that helps. Cleaning and greasing the tilt u-joint and bearings, and check for looseness before re-assembly may fix loose/sloppy steering. :2cents:

Oh, and threadlock the bolts and screws when re-assembling. I learned that one the hard way. I rebuilt mine 6 years ago and noticed slop last year. Tore it apart this summer and found 2 of the 4 torx bolts loose.

Alright thanks. I have a torx set. I'll just have to hunt down the other tool. There are so man broken pieces inside this column that I have to tear it all the way down.
