So due to financial situation im kinda forces to sell my typhoon first I do wanna say it holds a salvage title due to small accident still has not been repaired so buyer can see actual damage and what will be needed to get her back to how she was, truck was running good and still is besides the body damage truck is in good shape interior is all there and in great shape, I was daily driving it until the accident might need a little tune up or ignition work but besides that truck is in great shape

Has history so if you search you can find that engine has been rebuilt at not too long ago

I get the impression you "totaled it" and bought it back from the ins company, correct? If so, does it have a Salvage TITLE or a Salvage CERTIFICATE? There is a big-azz difference. Cali Salvage-branded titles are transfered and treated like any other vehicle. Salvage Certificate vehicles are not. Cali Salvage Certificate vehicles are a PITA to get legal again. I've done several, I know what's involved.

When it gets "totaled", you turn in the original title, and the State issues a Salvage Certificate. There are several things that have to be accomplished before it's road-legal again.

After repairs are completed, you have to take the vehicle to a Lamp and Brake Station and get a certificate, get an Emissions Test and Certification, and take it for a VIN Verification by a DMV or other authorized "verifier". When you have all this, you take the paper work (including reciepts for the parts used for the repairs) and your Salvage Certificate to DMV and they issue a new title, that will be branded "Salvage".

Another caution: DMV will consider the vehicle as having been operated if not placed on a PNO within 10 days of the Salvage Certificate being issued. So get it on a Non-Op right away, or the penalties will accrue rapidly. It's easy for back penalties and expense to whittle away any remaining value. Be cautious if you haven't been through this before. Lots of time, expense and aggravation to jump through all the hoops.

If it is indeed a Salvage "Title" and not a Certificate (you've done all the work, (or bought it with a Salvage Title), inform me, and I'll remove this post. I put this up as info for both you as well as any potential purchaser.

Yes I'm sure everyone that's delt with a salvage title vehicle knows it need a brake and lamp and Vin verification as well as a smog and all this can be provided by me at the buyers expense and it's just got totaled hasn't even been 10 days so no penalties have accumulated and will be put in non operable if sell doesn't happen shortly

I was right. It's not a "Salvage Title". It's a Salvage CERTIFICATE. Big-ass difference. Good luck.

If the truck has a salvage certificate, pleae update your first post. Don't assume that everyone knows the title status, many states use different terminology for title status.

No he didn't, read the screen name, dgoodhue has only made 1 post in this thread, DaveP deleted his first post that had the salvage title/cert questions in it.

How does any vehicle get a salvage title/cert from a broken headlight, grill and dented hood? Seriously, did you even fight with the insurance company before they issued that title? Did they do the estimate like it was a Jimmy? Something doesn't seem right there.

Anyway, its a 182,000 mile truck with a Salvage Cert, its worth $3000 (realistically) - $4000 (max) to someone who needs the parts or has the parts to fix it. There is zero value left in that truck as it sits, not meaning its worthless, but there will be no money made after time and money are invested into it. It would be great as a daily driver or someone who wanted to do an LS Swap. You'd probably make more money selling the drivetrain separately and selling the roller for $3000.

In pretty much any state, a salvage cert is issued to a vehicle just as documented proof of ownership in place of a title (to put it simply). A vehicle with a salvage cert cannot be registered until it has been repaired and inspected by the powers that be, usually a specific inspection station and sometimes police to confirm replacement parts are not stolen. Once all that is done and it passes, a salvage title is issued and the vehicle can now be registered and insured as a normal vehicle, but it will always hold a salvage title status. You can "wash" a title through some states, usually states who do not have a salvage title classification, but regardless the history will ALWAYS be in the Carfax or similar reports.

no was not valued as a jimmy I have all the insurance reports and estimates they did on the truck will be more than happy to show to the buyer and like I said it will be holding a salvage title once new owner registers it I still have the clean title certificate so If I was trying to hide I could of not mentioned the salvage title but I'm not so its salvage title once new owner registers it to there name

So how did the salvage cert work out? Im assuming you rear ended someone, your insurance company totaled it out (I wouldnt have even foled a claim on it, just the other vehicle), insurance company paid you its value and you bought it back?

And when you say it might need ignition or tune up, does that mean it wasnt running right? I know someone who is interested, but cautious about this whole situation.

Something tells me there is something you're not telling us about, i just dont see a "totaled" vehicle right there.

Thank you and to confirm its salvage certificate until new owner registers it or I re register it to be able to drive it again but like I said earlier all these needed documents I can get at the buyers expense

Hmm, I pretty much had this certificate/title thing correct. Compare the [restored] post I did last night from memory to the DMV's website info I cite below. The main reson I brought this up at all is because it affects the value. If the seller want's to maximize the value of his truck, he should re-title it prior to placing it for sale. "At buyer's expense" is BS. You won't get squat for it that way from anyone that knows what's involved. Do it yourself, then say "salvage title". A salvage title truck can be transferred like any other vehicle with a normal title. There's nothing more to do once the hoops have been jumped through.

How to Re-Register a Salvaged Vehicle in California:

Complete an Application for Title or Registration (REG 343)
Provide a bill of sale from a dismantler and any prior bills of sale (Chain of ownership).
Have the vehicle inspected at the DMV or by the CHP.
Obtain the proper equipment certificates and smog inspections, if necessary.
Pay the $50 total loss salvage inspection fee, $2 prior history fee, and the title/registration fees.

What's a Salvaged Vehicle?

California defines a salvaged vehicle as one that has been either totally destroyed or damaged beyond what the insurance company is willing to pay to fix it, so the owner never gets the vehicle repaired. Depending on its condition, one of several things may happen to the car.

The first of these is that the title is exchanged for a Salvage Certificate issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. This becomes the new ownership document; in other words, a salvage vehicle in California has no title. (until it has been re-titled by following the steps above)​

There is a LOT of work and expense ahead for someone to re-register and re-title this truck in order for it to be road-legal again. I've purchased 3 vehicles from yards with salvage CERTIFICATES. In each case, I paid about 30% of what I sold them for. The cost of repairs was about 50% of purchase price. In other words, based on my experience, vehicles on salvage certificates are worth about 1/3 of what they are if they have already been resurrected and re-titled.

You shouldn't be saying "Salvage Title" because right now, it doesn't have any "Title" at all.

My guess is that the frame was bent or the cost to repair is more than the cost of the vehicle. Also, I could be wrong on this but. I beleave California requires that replacment parts be new from dealer. Cant buy ebay junk or used parts. That is why California totaled the vehicle. No new parts avalible from dealer. Insurance company/ repair shop could not find NOS parts. Someone should have mentioned that sportmachines has NOS parts then you might have a clean titled vehicle.
