Re: Screw Travelers/Liberty Mutual

and just for the record,I found out allstate and others will tell you its agreed value but its NOT!! None of the companies are going to pay a stated value, you need a place like hagerty with a special policy
See when I asked the people at allstate about collector insurance they told me that they worked with grundy(might have been one of the other popular ones.. cant remember now) and said it would be appraised, a bunch of pictures taken, and if I had any receipts of the stuff I've had done to it, or bought that were on it to give copies to them of it. And an agreed valve would be the way to go. Which is the number one reason, aside from if I ever sell it I keep all the sales receipts. In case if anyone would question what I have done, or is in the truck I can bring them as well as the pictures out and prove to them its worth and I have in it what I actually do. I have a stack of them in the locked part of my toolbox as well as all the other stuff from the truck.

Sad that it will probably take a lawyer to really go through the shit to tell if its really covered for a "said" amount. Because I'd be all over the companies ass, let alone the local person I actually signed up with if it only came back as half, or very little if something happened.

For liberty I provided the VIN and it is listed as a Syclone on my policy. I insure it as a pleasure vehicle which basically means it is not my primary vehicle, but I can still drive it whenever I want. I looked into collector insurance places like grundy etc and their stipulations were basically I could never drive it. As soon as I told them I wanted to be able to drive it to work once in a while they were ready to hang up the phone on me. I wanted to be able to drive it to work or during the week or any time I felt like it so I didn't go with collector type insurance. $600 per year
Thats why I had to ask, because I had someone tell me the same thing from one of those collector car insurance places. If I drive it pretty much at all they won't insure it. Which I think is total BS.

Re: Screw Travelers/Liberty Mutual

There is a difference between "Stated Value" and "Agreed Value". Using $15K as a value for your truck, you insure it for $15K, you pay a premium based on $15K ... BUT ... when there is a loss, specifically a Total Loss, one policy will pay the $15K and the other will pay you based on what "they" feel is the market value at the time of loss.

When "They" determine the market value at the time of loss and come up with $8K and you take them to court, you lose. Your policy is a legal and binding contract and you signed it. If you did not understand what you were signing, they tell you that you should have gotten an atty. to interpet it for you.

I have testified in court as to the value for a couple of my customers when they ran into this "market value adjustment" and the court has ruled the same each time. The vehicle owner lost. Don't know why I had to testify (guess it was the vehicle owners atty. grasping at straws) as my evaluation had nothing to do with the case. It comes down to contractural law.

Please make sure you know what you are getting for a policy. I hate to see agents and companies take advantage of a customer.
