I went and looked at a few up in Phx yesterday. First of all, the blue one is not all its cracked up to be. I was prepared to pay too much for it, but when I saw it I was pretty disappointed. I didn't really bother taking pics, because I was quite upset. The truck grew up in IL and the current owner bought it there and brought it with him when he moved. Long story short, the fenders were rotted out in the upper wheel well. This could be felt underneath and seen through the paint. The doors were rotted underneath, the tailgate was junk and left rear corner cladding was cracked along with the bumper. Due to the custom wing being cracked, moisture got in and there's now cancer on the upper rear corner. There was a remote start alarm on it, and the previous owner removed it and IMO was kind of destructive. It had custom lower pieces on the door panels with speakers. The owner assured me that was stock. Stock infinity speakers? I don't think so. The AC didn't work and the dude had no idea as to why or what that meant $$$ wise. Also there was this funny plastic box mounted in front of the radiator with wires coming out of it. I have no idea what it was, but it was probably alarm related.
As far as the suspension, they're just Rancho air shocks, but it did ride well and sit nice. The interior was in pretty good shape, but again, you could tell there was a monster stereo in there. The owner was a cool guy, but I don't think he knew what he had, and not in a good way. I could tell it had been repainted on the passenger's side due to a little blue being on the cladding and overspray on the bolts. He said it hadn't been repainted as far as he knew. He had no idea as to the amount of rust and the condition of his vehicle. He thought it was fairly perfect and therefore he felt it should command a premium price. So...I moved on. I took it two ways. Either this guy was playing dumb and hoping that I wouldn't notice these things, and he could pass it off as a perfect truck. Or he just was ignorant. IDK.
It drove like a low milage truck, but I've driven stock 150K mile trucks that run stronger. The turbo spooled well and it had no issues buiding boost, but IMO it needed too much work. Here in a AZ nothing rusts. It was more worth it for me to get a higher mileage AZ truck that has no rust. I'm not a body guy but if I was, I would've considered it. But not for that price. I guess the thing that chapped my ass was the fact that I talked to this guy on the phone about rust and cladding and he told he it was in great shape. And I drove 120miles to see the opposite.
I quized him about market value and if he knew what others are going for and he thinks these trucks still go for 20-30K. I said sure if they're in show condition and LOW mileage. He was blabbing about this possibly being a Barrett-Jackson with new paint, blah blah blah.
All in all I'm not saying this truck is crap, but its a project truck with respects to the body. Plain and simple.
