Round 2: Shift Sector 1/2 Mile racing in my Turbo LSx Syclone 166MPH

I participated in this even again this last weekend. Truck wasn't 100% ready from the last round of changes I made but I have been working a lot of over time and didn't have all kinds of time to work on it.

Here is a run down of the last race...
http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=99378

My goal this race was to run 170MPH to beat my last race best of 165.6MPH. The only changes to the truck are listed below.
-CTS-V 4 piston brakes front and rear
-18" Z06 wheels compared to 18" wagon wheels (same tires though)
-32 spline Ty output on the t-case
-added a second meth nozzle
-actually cleaned the truck the morning before we left
-new windshield to keep Renz happy

I didn't do any tuning for the second nozzle prior to the race and the last race I was at a 98% duty cycle on my faster run.

Here it is nice and clean...

Almost there with the convoy of my friends cars

In line for the first race

A lot of fast cars out there

My first race was against my buddies 13' GT500. During the race at about 150MPH i hear a snapping sound and saw a black blur go flying past my drivers side window. Finished the race running 160MPH and found this...

The track guys were nice enough to pick up the pieces for me

I grabbed some tape out of the tool bag and got to work. I wasn't going to let that stop me from racing

I raced again and ran a new best of 166.4MPH. This was only at 13psi and 18* of timing. Over the next couple runs it when I started having real problems. The solenoids on my Boost Leash boost controller went out and would not let me make any more boost. I already had my biggest spring in the wastegate which netted me the 13psi with the controller off.

So I pulled the controller and started to play with my lines and other springs. The only combo I could get to work netted me 8psi (too low!), 13psi (still too low!), and 26psi (way too high!) After the 26psi fiasco I put the truck back on the trailer and called it a day. Due to my over extended fuel system my AFRs were 12.3:1 at the 26psi. I did turn my timing down to 12* prior for a safety measure. The engine is not making any funny noises and I hoping running E85, dual meth nozzles and low timing saved the motor. I will look at it when I have time in a few weeks. The 2-3 seconds I was at 26psi was absolutely amazing though!

Here are some pics I found on instagram of the truck

While this race was kind of disappointing with the boost controller issues, I still had fun. My buddies GT500 ran 159 spinning a lot and my other buddies G35 ran 170 starting in 2nd due to some shifter issues. The new brakes were freaking awesome and stopped 1000000 times better that the last setup. Hoping to get out and run this event year again. As of right now, I'm going to focus on some 1/4 mile racing!

Over all my runs were 158, 160, 161, 166, 162, 160, 115(aborted 26psi). No two races were with the same setup.

I have some videos but have to edit them so might be a while

Also, if anyone has an unpainted drivers side wheel arch and rocker cladding let me know. I need to replace mine for obvious reasons :)

Just changed it. Put set back plates in the rear and it pulled my slip yoke out of the t-case too far. Simple solution was to put in a Ty output with a Ty slip yoke. The difference in length made it so I could keep the same drive shaft. Killed 2 birds with 1 stone and only cost me the price of a u-joint and some ATF

Nice work Garrison.

Thanks. Cant wait to see your truck finished. Will make mine seem slow as shit.

In case anyone is wondering, the hood is an AMD aluminum unit with the gel coat taken off with a scotch bright pad. Looks sweet bare aluminum but I don't know if I will keep it that way.

Killer. Still surprised you fit in that thing. Looks like you need a GT40 helmet bubble in there.

Well done! Great work on your part to go and be a part of such an event! Kuddos. Can't wait to see more out of you and the truck!

It sure is a tight fit with a helmet on. My back was hurting from slouching all day. When I put a cage in the truck it will be getting some real low aluminum racing buckets for sure.

Thanks for the link. Here are some pics they had. Wish my cladding was all there. Haha

Here is a quick video I edited of the last run. 6psi boost launch. Once it got traction it jumped to 26psi but took me a second to realize that since I was paying attention to not crashing. Blowing through my converter at that boost level as well which you can see and hear by the truck not shifting. Data logs show over a 20% slip in the converter when I was on the limiter and not shifting.

I tried to embed the video but couldn't figure it out
