Rough idle, 8 lb boost peak

I've been scanning my typhoon with an older snap on scanner and its showing a peak boost of close to 9 psi at WOT in any gear. It also idles pretty rough, has new plugs and wires.

Another thing I noticed was that the MAT was around 60* C, or 150ish F, which is pretty high from what I've read, but I'm going to add coolant because I think its low, and will replace the metal hoses tonight too.

At wot from a stop, it takes off decently, but turns into a turd instantly and boost pressure drops with no KR showing. I'm thinking it could be a clogged cat? It also smokes bad at startup but that seems common because of valve seals, doesn't smoke while driving.

Also the idle sounds funny to me, almost clunkier like a diesel, if that makes sense haha, seems louder than it should with the hood open but I could be crazy.

WG duty cycle is 76% or so at wot, and holds the boost steady, but low.

If anyone has some ideas to throw my way I'd appreciate it, if more info is needed lemme know!

thanks,

shaun

Also, scanner shows 25.5-26.1 inHg at idle, seems high?

edit: Removed vac line to actuator and it spools like crazy now, have to look at what needs to be replaced though

Re: Rough idle, 8 lb boost peak

All of the vacuum lines are brand new silicone lines that are cable tied at ends and I've checked them all about 17 times by now.

When I drove without the vacuum port connecting solenoid to waste gate actuator, it spooled very fast and felt much much quicker, and it actually made boost just as quick on highway whereas with it hooked up it barely does anything from a roll.

I don't believe it had silicone lines on it when I got it. I had no issues with boost or idle. First question to ask is what has changed? I thought I recall an egr delete? Anything else?
I believe plugs were pretty new, maybe 139k?

No, I put the silicone hoses on, was told by previous owner that they came with the truck in a box, but he never installed them. The EGR is still on there.

It came with receipts for coolant, oil and filter, A/C compressor, shocks and I believe PS Pump. The IC pump has a red wire with a crimp on connector, not sure if that is a stock pump or not, but I'm thinking not.

Found a leak in heat exchanger and turbo shaft seems to have play, is any amount of wiggle acceptable?

A very little side to side play is ok, but usually in or out is not. I may of missed it but how many miles on the truck/ turbo if its still the original?

Yeah it has the check valves and it has 1449xx as of today, still no luck and it dies half the time I turn AC on

The rough idle and dying with the A/C on could be a bad Idle Air Controller. It could also be loose which would cause a vacuum leak.

Could be a bad MAP sensor. I've never had near that high of vacuum. You should try to check it with a gauge.

Re: Rough idle, 8 lb boost peak

EGR connector wire was loose, seemed to fix boost problem, wasn't expecting that lol. Goes up to 14psi now and idle is reading correctly too, but no dice on AC and fan yet. I put a trans cooler in place of broken heat exchanger temporarily, along with a Davies Craig 4gpm pump, and surprisingly IATs stayed between 120-140 in back to back 45-90 runs at WOT, cruising stays around 125-135 with egr on.

Re: Rough idle, 8 lb boost peak

Changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor, ran good for 2 days and then like ass again. The new plugs are covered in oil after sitting. there's 0 smoke while driving, only on startup. is there anything else I should look into?

Turbo spooled great for the two days, now spools slow and truck doesn't really go until 20-25 when it gets 8-10 psi.

There's no KR, knock count never goes up after startup either.

I was more under the impression that valve seals wouldn't wreck performance once oil from sitting was burned off, is that off though? Oil level still reads good too so its not losing a ton.

Mine almost did the same thing. Turned out the seals were gone in the turbo. I see someone said some side to side movement is okay but they mean very very small. Ive just replaced the turbo with a td06-20g. Smoke is gone. Oil use gone. Sounds a ton better i just need to work out my boost problem with the factory ecu controlled solinoid.
