QUOTE=91syclone832;913378]At quin thanks for the advice it makes sense ,, the only reason people dont buy a truck for over ten k is cause there all beat up and people want top doller. Ya my truck has 120k miles but its gonna be the cleanest truck possiblly in the south bay and ya im gonna want over ten k but thats cause it gonna look and run like a new truck and im going to have documentation on evrything with pics of process.[/QUOTE]

Re: restoration frame off?

Please explain "real cars " for me.
I am not clear on what you meen by this statement.
Are you infering that SYTY's are not real ?
Or that the cars your brothers build are alot better than our trucks?
I just want to understand what your saying.

I have to say that your ambition is refreshing and I always encourage people to try something that interests them,
That said the market is week for these trucks for some reason and owning one is more a labor of love than an investment. What could it hurt? If you do all this work and finish up with it at the very least you will have a very nice truck that is fun to drive and in my opinion looks badass.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: restoration frame off?

@ nelson you are 100% correct.. And as far as real cars im not putting down sy or tys in no way i love them i was just responding to daves dumb comment about it never going to run again and be in boxes when i sell it.. But from the sounds of it he doesnt even build his own stuff.. Oh and by real cars i meant frame off resto 87 gran national stage motor and my other bro frame off resto 69 camaro bigblock aluminum headed and they are more then helpfull :)

Re: restoration frame off?

a painted frame doesn't add anything to the value in my eyes.

rebuilt motor is a risk unless it is documented and has some miles on it.

straight body out of the shop, what if i wanted it to be a different color? <<<<<---------

Syty's aren't exactly money makers.

yeah maybe i wanted to buy an orange one lol

Re: restoration frame off?

You asked for advice and you got it.

What is your motivation to do this? Money? If so, just sell the truck right now, stock... Save yourself a tonne.

You need a passion for these trucks or you're going to be disappointed.

Re: restoration frame off?

Very nice on the cars!
Two of my favorites.
David from what I have read and found by him answering my questions in the past is a very, very knowledgable guy. Not only in the SYTY circle. He has been nothing but helpful to me and countless others here. I am still a noob and have been here for a few years and trying to learn all the time. It seems this list does see its share of hot dog new guys that may start out with the best intentions only to end up like David describes. I am not saying this applies to you or your truck. I am only stating what I have seen. I am sure as your project progresses you will need some answers or help and more than likely Quatrajet will be of great help. Just sayin!
Keep us posted.

P.S.
I want John Forces mechanic to build my next motor!

Re: restoration frame off?

I got the passion and the money so i dont see a problem im still thinking about the frame off but im defitnately painting her and rebuilding the motor and have a nice syclone while i sell it to build another with even more experiance whats so wrong with that

Re: restoration frame off?

3k for a good paint job, 2k for a new motor, and then add all the other crap to finish off your "restoration", so at the very least your into it $6,000 plus the tons of hours involved. Unless you paid $1500 for the truck, your not going to make any money.

Re: restoration frame off?

So you can get a syclone with a fresh motor and flawless paint and interior for 7500 shit tell me where it is ill buy that thing

You're dumber than a box of rocks. There's an art to reading. Words, and combination of words, have meaning. I suggest you hang around long enough to learn what people here do and don't do, before jumping to conclusions, and people ignore you. You're going to NEED help from people that know THESE trucks. These are NOT GN's or BBC's.

I often write my posts in Third Person, Present Tense, particularly when writing about myself. I'm not a narcissist. So I don't talk too much about what I can and can't do. I just get it done. Hint: I don't use John Force's mechanic, or anyone else, for anything.

OK. I'm done. Good Luck, and Good Night.

Re: restoration frame off?

My suggestion is to go back and re-read post #12 there is alot of good info in that post!!!!

The more time you spend on here and searching you come to the realization that these trucks are a real PITA!!!!

Ask me how I know I owned mine for two weeks and blew it up:rant: Figured I would be down for a few months and took me a year to get it back running. My goal is to keep it reliable and ENJOY it!!!!

Re: restoration frame off?

Pm me when its all done . I will buy it for what the market at the time warrants .That should be around 12.500 And it better be perfect and run like a top. Oh and no smoke out of the oil cap..

Re: restoration frame off?

Here's what I would suggest.

  • Do what it takes to get it running.
  • Do what it takes to make it drivable.

This is such damn good advice that all noobs should be required to read, memorize and recite 10x before being allowed to post. With all respect to the OP, your thoughts are helter-skelter. Rims? Restorations? I like your enthusiasm, but take it step-by-step. Putting a truck on stands is the fastest way to lose interest on a project.

On the other hand...the best prices/deals come from the dreamers that have mothballed their trucks. Dave, let him be! :rotf:

Re: restoration frame off?

as i sayed before i am gonna get it running im waiting to get off from work and im going to pick some parts up and see what the deal is with this engine by tomorow i should have her cranking over and hopefully starting...
