Got 160s in both my trucks, heaters work swell.. I would guess you have a heater core that isnt flowing well, or a kink in the coolant lines attached to the core?

Im not sure how this works with our vehicles, but if you want to prevent the buildup of moisture on your windows, you need to run the A/C too. The moisture in your vehicle will condense on the A/C heat exchanger in your evaporator.

I dont know...stupid post. Your fan is working fine? Our A/C controls work via vacuum...the woosh you here when you flip the lever, does it go away after a sec? Maybe the "vacuum cup" that lets the coolant flow into your heater core is wasting away.

At this point I should probably delete my post and save face but we'll see how it goes.

I have a 180* thermostat - not a 160* but I never have an issue with heat - generally it is TOO hot. The only time it didn't get hot is when my heater core took a crap. If it has taken a crap your windows will all be fogged up. I don't know what physics apply to the windows being foggy when a heater core dies - but it happens. I would guess that is your issue - but you should also have a very foul smell coming from your interior that smells a little something like anti-freeze  It could be outside the truck in which case you will see anti-freeze on your passengerside fenderwell area. I have driven my Ty in temps below 0 and had to turn the heat down.

Right on. If a vehicle has A/C, it will be used by the defrosting system to help remove moisture. So, just turning on "Defrost" actually turns on the A/C (as needed). My guess is that your A/C system is not functioning and you have a problem with anti-freeze flowing to the heater core. My A/C is blown right now, but the heater is hot enough that moisture doesn't get too bad, unless it is really, really damp out and my girlfriend is talking alot  .

it blows well can hear ac com. kick on, just not much heat, will check for kinks, thanks

Does the compressor stay on for a little while or does it kick on and off alot (like every few seconds)?

If your heat (when you have the little slider bar pointed to heat or vent) isn't working - meaning COLD/luke warm/chilly/ - it isn't going to have anything to do with the AC compressor. The AC compressor only works on AC and defrost. Which I think was stated - I just don't want to pass that point up and make this more difficult than it really is. I disconnected my AC compressor and my defrost still got hot. I think all the AC compressor does is removes the moisture from the air - it shouldn't keep it from getting hot. Check your coolant level as well. Not only at the over flow - but at the radiator cap as well. Chances are if it is low - it is going to cycle between hot and cold.

Same thing happened to my wife's car (neon) was able to remove the heater core lines from it under the hood, and flush the core out with a garden hose. Works fine now.

thanks for all the help, the heater core is the problem, anyone know how long it would take a shade tree mechanic to replace, or how much if a auto repair shop did it? going to search archives for any step by step instructions.

Yes - get a 5/8 inch adapter thingy - I have no idea what it is called. I got a brass one and just disconnected the two hoses going into the heater core then attached those hoses using the adapter thing. But in that case you will have NO heat - period, zilch, nada. But you won't have to worry about your windows fogging up.
