Remote trans filter flow rates

My trans builder warned me not to use a remote inline spin on type trans filter claiming they've been known to restrict flow enough to blow a trans. They sent me a high flow inline magnetic filter instead, saying to only use it for the first few thousand miles, then remove it from the system and discard it.
But on K&N's website says the filter I have has a 500psi burst rating, stops particles as small as 10 to 20 microns, has a flow rating of between 12 and 16 gallons per minute. That seems like an awfuil lot.
Should I just go ahead and run it?

The only time I've heard of filters causing problems was when they were installed incorrectly. Unfortunately it happens a lot. Spin on type oil filters are just regular old oil filters with a bypass valve that's spring loaded. If your filter gets plugged up, the bypass valve closes and the oil just shoots past the filter. If you hook the filter up backwards though, the valve will slam shut and the fluid has no where to go. You can tool around the neigborhood but as soon as you hit the freeway, you'll cook it.
If your cooler and tranny are throwing out so much crud that the inline filter is getting plugged after such a short time, the cooler should have been thoroughly flushed or replaced. The idea is for the filter to catch it instead of the valve body. Filters can be replaced relatively easy compared to a valvebody. His concerns are probably based on a bad install. Just a guess.
