reinstalling engine

Getting ready to put the new engine in, thought some might have some insight. I have the front of the truck stripped, so there are just two frame rails sticking out. What should I bolt on before it gets set in the truck, and what should wait till after its in. Tranny is still in the truck. Thanks.

Re: reinstalling engine

have you done your oil dipstick?

put motor mounts on the engine and if you can cut a small access hole to tighten up the frame pads that could save you about 12 hours of misery.

Never dealt with it myself, but have read others wishing they'd installed the remote oil cooler lines to the block first. Or are you running a filter on the block?

No front clip, as in fenders or core support? if so assemble everything on the stand including the harness

Re: reinstalling engine

here is how it sits right now. Not sure what is meant by doing the oil dipstick, is that a mod I should do? I am running an on the block filter, I got the fitting a few days ago. Right now I am impatiently waiting for the truck to deliver the engine.

Re: reinstalling engine

:stupid: Yup, I made that mistake and ended up pulling the motor again to get them right.

u took the engine out because of that? i have done it both ways but i'm sure you don't need to take your engine out because of that. alot of them were leaking and replaced with everything in the truck.

If you put the headers on before the dipstick then be prepared to either remove them or waste hours and $$$$$$$ trying to get it to fit on - you have to sort of thread it between the headers. It is a ROYAL pita.

Re: reinstalling engine

the lower IC gets in the way and to remove the libnes in one piece you have to "tilt" the motor

I didn't have that much bolted in, just the motor mounts and transmission bell housing bolts started. I had already bent the remote oil lines little while putting the motor in anyways.

Re: reinstalling engine

On my sy i got rid of the aluminum factory remote oui filter lines. I purchased the AN fittings and lins for about $100. I threaded the adaptor on the block and the oil filter housing and ran the lines up under the booster and against the inner fender to the filter. I instantly noticed a little higher oil pressure when the engin was heat soaked afterall the stock setup puts them really close to the crosover pipe=heat. I then purchased a b&m radiator style cooler with the fan on it and mounted that behind the grille on the lh side and again threaded and ran AN fittings and line to the B&M cooler. Now When the motor is heat soaked the oil pressure barely suffers @ iddle.

Awesome first post!

You can put the harness from ontop of the booster to under it. Cleans it up a little and is easier to do with the motor out.

Make sure everything is cleaned up, reloomed, and all connectors are there. You can fix the purple wire problem if you have that. Or put a stronger/thicker wire in there.

Re: reinstalling engine

I just put mine back in, and I just made sure the oil lines were all on, both the turbo return and the filter lines, and the turbo coolant line just above the pan. Everything else went back on with the engine in the truck. Found it really easy to put the motor in with as little as possible in the way.

Re: reinstalling engine

Another thought is the solid (Jeep) steering shaft upgrade. If it isn't there already, now's a GREAT time to do it. You'll be glad you made the change once you drive it.

Re: reinstalling engine

make sure the fuel lines are in place, I left mine fall down and was a pain in the ass, ended up pulling the engine to get them in the right spot.

Re: reinstalling engine

Oh, easy time to do the abs delete, and some braided front lines. Go to solid motor mounts. And like said above, cut the access hole in the frame pad for the mounts so its easier to get to them. Just make sure you put the whole in the right spot, and make it big enough to get a wrench/socket in there.

X 2 on the fuel lines ! I had the same problem. Everything else was straight forward.

What's up with the hole in the frame? I don't recall anything on that one.
