Rear main seal replacement???

It looks like I have to replace my rear main seal. Has anyone done it? Any advice, tips or tricks?
My manual states that I have to pull the oil pan off and un-bolt the seal housing.
Any way to do this with the the pan and seal housing in place? Couldn't I somehow just pry out the seal then tap a new one back in?
Thanks!

You dont need to drop the oil pan if its a stock rear seal. You dont even need to touch the oil pan for that matter.

Remove or just unbolt trans and move it back leaving it on the jack. Remove fly wheel/flex plate. Pry out old seal (careful around the crank) then install new seal. Put all the stuff back in that you had to remove to get to the seal and stand back to marvel at your mechanical prowess.

Replacing the seal is super easy. Its getting to it thats a PIA.

Thanks, I was dreading dropping the pan. Now I just have to get my energy level up to start taking things apart.
