Rear Ls1 brakes

I am in the process of starting to gather what i need for the rear caliper install on my ty. I spoke to my friend who got me the fronts and he had a question that i couldnt answer. He stated that if i want the emergency brake that he will have to give me the rear axel becasue that is what HE thinks is what i will need to make the emergency brake work. Now he doesnt do this for a living so he stated he might be wrong which of course think he is but what ever I need just tell him and he will get it for me. He parts out vipers, cameros and trans AM's so he has the parts. Okay so the question is, i know the emergency brake wont work with out some modification for the bracket but that i will deal with after i get the calipers installed. I just want to make sure i tell him exactly what i need instead of trying to get it together and noticing a few things that i did not ask for but need. thanks

What do you mean about this...

i saw in a thread here somewhere modifying the original camaro bracket to work.

Does that mean i have to do some modifications? Just got a little confused on that second sentence.

Re: Rear Ls1 brakes

im trying to find it, but someone showed how to make the original bolt on bracket fron the camaro brakes work on a sy/ty. the bracket just bolts to the rear axle with three of the bolts that hold the backng plate on. you can do the swapp with the rear end in the truck just pull the axles and swap backing plates.

ls-1 off or the rear of late model camaro/firebird bolt right on to sy/ty rear ends and use the camaro rotor. awesome swap. i just did ls-1 rears , c-5 fronts , abs delete and hydroboost. cold and snowy here so i cant tell you how it stops yet but supposed to be awesome ...

Re: Rear Ls1 brakes

so stock ls1 calipers bolt right up to our rear? no adapter plate or nothing

Re: Rear Ls1 brakes

no adapter , remove your axles and backing plates and bolt the camaro rear backing plates on and put your axles back in and install caliper brackets and camaro rear rotors and pads. i did learn from someone here you must put the left rear camaro brake on the sy/ty right rear and visa versa , to clear the bump stops.

simple swap, i did it start to finish in about 2 1/2 hours not counting brake lines , but i was also consuming bevrages at the time.....

also ls-1 front will work on sy/tys also but you need to buy a adapter kit from cbr performance... or the vete c-5 brakes also , get the kit from the same place.

Re: Rear Ls1 brakes

you'll be surprised how easy the rear swap is , the front is alittle more involves but the instructions that come with the kit make it a walk in the park also. great kit from cbr.

Alwaycode and Ryda, I think that the Syclone is NOT a direct bolt-up. It is on the Typhoon. GM went from a 3-bolt axle flange to a 4-bolt axle flange in 1992. The Syclone can still be converted (there used to be a 'how-to' somewhere), it just requires a little extra drilling.

Someone who has converted a Sy correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct. I had to cut 45 deg. angle on the square corners & drill 1 additional hole.
You can see the C5 rear brakes I installed using the LS1 bracket here: http://new.photos.yahoo.com/rbippus@sbcglobal.net/album/576460762329343340
