Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

Yeah , I see what you mean . I couldnt do the fronts without cutting the spindles , but in case i didnt like the rear discs for some reason , I wanted to make it an easy swap back .

bad working ABS is a killer on the road, mine acted up without giving a code, try to brake at 120mph on dry pavement, when the ABS thinks it needs to act while it doesn't need to....

scary moments

bad working abs in my g-van caused me to get in an accident  GMs early 90s ABS wasnt the greatest IMO. Most of my vehicles never had ABS to begin with, and I always disabled it in my F-bodys in the computer. I prefer the break feel of non ABS. Plus I can stop a vehilce better with out it personally.

Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

ok i have my LS1 rear setup sitting in the garage waiting for me to install it this weekend
only one thing im concerned about...
I cant find any info about what to do with the rear brake lines
i searched and everyone recommended the turbo time lines for the swap but i emailed them and they don't sell them any more!
so what needs to be done to make these work?
i don't want to get these all installed and then not be able to get the brake lines to work...

Thanks

Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

when I did the syclone I made new hard lines from the frame down you should be able to built them your self from a local napa have them pull the liner from frame to diff, and a 00 camaro rear brake like you would need to create the line in between them

what setup would i need to run vette rear brakes??

Baer sells a conversion which I think uses Corvette rear calipers. One big challenge with Vette brakes conversions is they use a independent rear suspension, SyTy have a straight axle, so the easily converted bolt on rear brakes come from F-Body and S-10's with straight axles.

Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

ok. well i was thinking the vette brakes would look nicer but if its alot cheaper and easier to do LS1 brakes then i will go that route. thanks for the help!

Its that easy . Just a little messy .A solution is on the way using the stock syty ebrake cable but its not 100% yet . Soon though . Enjoy .

Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

I will tell you that I did a full rear disc brake conversion for about $85 plus 2 drill bits. I used a rear disc setup off a 2000 blazer and just cut my brake mount off my axle and drilled 2 extra holes for the four bolt setup. It looks great and it was super cheap. Don't know how it stops yet, still a rolling chassis, but not for long.

Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

I have to agree with the folks above. I have been very happy with my rear LS1 discs, front LS1 discs, and ABS delete. Due to a malfunction, I had a chance to directly compare ABS/no-ABS 'back to back'. I very much prefer no ABS. NAPA sells a $2 adapter to match the camaro caliper lines to the S10 axle lines. e-brake can be done for under $10, if you get the brackets from the donor camaro.

Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

Call me stupid or unobservant but if I find a camaro donor for thw rear, do the front calipers, rotors and such work with the CBR kit so all four wheels would match? Posting this as I am searching for my options.

I'd like to get it all done at once and it seems that one car could be the source for everything I need except for CBR kit.

PS... I am running 17" wheels and it's my understanding that things will fit nicely.

Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

I did LS1 front (CBR kit) and used LS1 (Camaro) rears, and am very happy with the brake balance right out of the box. Yes, they 'match' performance-wise. Visually, I guess they match as well, but they're pretty plain-looking calipers.

Re: Rear Disc Conversion?

I have ls1 rear backing plates, rotors & calipers. What else do I need to install them?
