You can't make changes using datamaster you need tuner pro for that portion... datamaster simply logs everything for you or allows you to monitor things to see how good your truck really is running.
and yes all you need to run datamaster is the software, laptop and that aldl cable

i cant get the truck to connect to data master i have tryed all 3 of the slots for the aldl switch and certain placesments of that switch cause the check engine light to flash but still wont connect and do i hook it up when the truck is running or key in the on position? also is it possible that the usb from the computer isnt synced with datamaster everytime i plug in the usb the message pops up say usb conected click next to set-up???

do a search for the issue it's been discussed many times before but if I remember right you have to install the drivers for the usb device first and select a comport with in datamaster etc
also there should be a txt file with the software download that has the instructions in it

here is my converter box from craig moats. That switch has a top bottom and middle setting one of witch cause the check engine light to apear and flash also ive tryed to change the aldl timming and i still couldnt connect :tdown: . What should this switch be switched too? :roll:

That looks like a USB adapter.
You will have to install the USB driver first for it to recognize the converter.
Then in datamaster you have to set the port # to expect the ALDL signal on.
If it doesnt connect after you get it that far then tweak the timing settings.
Some trucks are just temperamental about connecting until you find the sweet spot.
I have also found the oem cables are much more reliable and give less noise and false indications than the homemade cables.
Probably due to the quality of wire and shielding used on the molded cables. YMMV
