"raw" cladding?

I was talking to Ray Moore last night about getting some NOS replacement cladding, and he told me they are in "raw" state, vs. the originals on my Sy that came clear coated. I didn't know this! I thought the cladding was just plain molded urethane (ABS?) that greys over time. Is this why I have one fender (replaced after a crunch), that does not match the originals, but is very grey and "bubbled"? Because the dealer didn't clear over it? Will I have to clear the NOS parts?

TIA!

Re: "raw" cladding?

I have some NOS cladding and some of it is the same way, the other pieces are painted but their is no way it would match my factory cladding. It would need some prep work (few bumps) and paint to be install.

How would the cladding have clear on it? I thought they were raw as well. Because if they wernt they would stain when you put a polish on it like Back to Black or Black Chrome (ie: the rear bumper/roll pan. it will stain it more then polish it.)

The Sy cladding doesn't have a clear coat, but it is painted in a matte finish.

Re: "raw" cladding?

It seems the only real solution to cladding mismatch etc. is just to paint the damn stuff all over again. Man, what fun...
