Um yeah lets see I saw a $30k Saleen

As I look at the window sticker in my lap, the MSRP was $49,146 with optional equipment. NOT what I paid but $30k is close enough .

Hey as long as you guys are arguing about "ZR-1"s, does anyone know why they are called that? I mean its just a common 5 spoke design. The actual 1990-95 Corvette ZR-1 was produced in such limited numbers I can't imagine hardly anyone actually has "ZR-1"s on their Syclone/Typhoon. A friend of mine bought a Camaro SS brand new in 2000 and his came first with chrome 10 spoke rims (you guys would probably call them "Z06" rims even though the Z06 wasnt out at that time) and they were pitted from the factory so he got a warranty swap for a set of 5 spokes that look identical to the "so called ZR-1s".

Yeah I guess it's nit-picking but some times there is a story behind things like this....? Did GM set the rim world on fire in 1990 with their revolutionary 5 spoke design or what? :p

ZR-1 five spoke design was first used on the ZR-1 in 1994 (production number of 448 in 1994 & 1995) I think the semi official name is A-Molds. GM later used that style rim on 95 Pace Cars, 96 Collectors Edition, 96 (Black version) on the Grand Sport with different rear offsets and same style on Camaro SS. You right most people don't use true ZR-1 on their SyTy, the rear offset sticks out 3/4" compared the factory offset, the Grandsport offset works best.

GM replica's are all over the place, though intially 10 years ago, discount GM dealers sold the ZR-1 for around the price of replica's at the time. Their are actually quite a few set real ZR-1 rims around (more so than number ZR-1 sold with them) People who are willing to spend a few extra $'s know the true GM ones are lighter and better quality than the replica's. Most people are too cheap and buy the Replica's, the price difference has gotten significant though.

Wow, now that's the kind of story I was hoping for. Thanks for posting that, Dave!
