Radio on/off switch FIXED

My on/off sw has failed. That is, it sorta works if held in half way. So...

A) Can it be fixed? IE remove radio, access switch and spray contact cleaner in it. (Didn't work just trying spray from outside.)

Or B) Is there a replacement that will fit? Including a CD player? From what I've read it's a PITA due to lack of depth.

Any Ideas? I don't need to get fancy because I don't drive it that much but it would be nice to have something.

A)Anything can be fixed. If cleaning internally does not work, a new switch will need to be soldered in. If a new replacement switch is no longer available, I would buy a similar working Delco radio and rob the switch from it.

B)You can replace the Delco receiver with any single DIN receiver. A dash kit, wiring harness, and an antenna adapter are required to complete the install. The proper dash kit will resolve the depth issue. Honestly, it's a non-issue for a seasoned installer. A million S/T truck have been manufactured, and at least half of them have aftermarket radios.

Either models will install WITHOUT a dash kit, and will look better than the forementioned single DIN receiver installed with a dash kit.

Even a double DIN can be installed if you are willing to spend the extra money.

FYI the term "DIN" is a designation used to denote the standardized sizing of car audio receivers.

My stock radio was doing the same thing (when i remove it 10 years ago) and know of others with the same problem.

I would like to fix my stock radio. So I am interested if their is a fix.

How about just turning the sound all of the way down instead of turning the radio off?

For something you say you dont use much this seems much easier.

For Typhoon#747, I knew what DIN meant. At least basically. I appreciate your comments. I'm attempting to get off cheap to start with. Funny you say anything can be fixed. I've fixed a lot of strange things over the years. I'll look into older radios, thanks.

For nastety92. I would do that if I could get it to come on and stay on in the first place. Only works at the aforementioned half way point and it's scratchy there.

And ty166 I'll check the web site looks like a good source.

I had a Blaupunkt Monterrey MP35 in my Ty, Crutchfield included the wiring adapters (plug n play) and the dash adapter. It actually sat fairly flush with the dash. The CD slot was behind the faceplate (it powered out of the way) and the color was customizable (had mine on red to match the truck). A good sounding and easy to use unit for $130.

Fixed. Removed radio, removed faceplate which technically required removal of the upper and lower case covers because they hook into the faceplate. Remove, don't disconnect, tape drive. Looking at the sw it's held in by two little metal claws that clamp it into position.

That bugger is rather small, about a 1/2 in cube, if that. Disassemble sw, watch out for the spring inside. Clean contacts. Then the stumper. Put it back together and it won't "push on/push off." Turns out for the sw to operate correctly it has to be mounted. This holds a tiny little piece in position so the sw operates correctly.

I felt like I was working on a watch. Put it back together and dang it works!!
