Radio cuts in/out..

Heres the issue.. Ive had the same Alpine radio in my Sy for the past ten years. The other day I decide to go for a ride and 5 mins into my radio begins to flicker on and off. So, I figured it was the death of my radio. I install another Alpine I had sitting on shelf (late 00's series) and she played sweet music. Until last night, wash the Sy, go for another cruise. Not even 5 mins into the radio cuts in n out. No music/sound.. display flickers on/off. Same darn thing! Only way to stop it is to pull the faceplate. WTF! I didnt have the chance to check wiring which Im sure is the culprit. Power problm, ground, ?? Ill have time to check tonite. Everything else on the truck is functional. Any others experience similar prob or have insight? Did search and came up w a post from gkrcr882 but doesnt fit my issue.

Re: Radio cuts in/out..

Been getting feedback off-board. Let me clarify that the radio is flickering on/off too consistent. Its like 1sec on.. 1sec off.. 1sec on. Im getting feedback like main plug connection problems. And its by far an issue w the faceplate connection. Id understand if I hit a bump, launched the heck outta it, or banged the dash and the radio went on/off, but the situation is different. The radio works fine for first few minutes then all hell breaks loose. on/off, on/off.. I have the Sy manuals and printed diagrams/info from Alldata and Mitchell. Will have to investigate this w test lite, multimeter, or better yet Power Probe.

Re: Radio cuts in/out..

It is a Syclone. And of course through the many wonderful years Ive had the crazy wipers w a mind of their own and the infamous starter click (freaking pos purple wire madness)etc etc.. Now this! :rotf: I was talking to a friend of mine installs radios and such. He was more or less on the same track as you Dave. It definitely has a rhytmic pattern to it which leads me to believe that it is shorted in the power to another source. Oddly Im not experiencing any problems with any other accs/equipment in the truck. I could easily eliminate one of the two 12v sources to the radio at a time.. create my own 12v jumper and if the prob disappears, then I can narrow down the short in either the orange or yellw wire. Does anyone think the gray (illum) wire could cause a prob like this? Would it be possible in anyway for the gray wire to interfere w power on/off? Appreciate the help!
