I heard some of the early Extremes came with a corvette motor.
i know when the extreme was on the drawing board, the original concept had a v8, lt1 i think. they even made a concept truck with a v8 in it, but that was as far as it went. when they finally hit dealerships they had 4.3s. :dunno: which honestly i didnt know they came with 4 bangers, i thought they were all v6s.

Ditto.

I knew their typical counter part S10/Blazer did but I though the extremes all had the 4.3L. The 4.3L in a N/A version isn't all that bad. They had close to 200hp but the 2.2's probaly have half that which has to suck.

Re: Raced an Extreme Blazer

I know a guy who had a nice built up 4.3 that ran low-12's, but for the most part those things are dogs. Glad I went with a Ty instead of one of those.

None of the xtreme trucks or blazers ever came with a GN or Vette motor, the first year for the xtreme truck was 99 and xtreme blazer was 01, and the xtreme package was nothing more than a trim deal, just had the body kit and ZQ8 susopension and there own wheel design, you could get it with eitrher the 4 banger or 4.3 and either auto or 5 speed, now a reg cab 4.3 5 speed with some bolt ons and sone juice can run a mid 13, but still no match for a well tuned SyTy.

 Thats funny, you totally missed the sarcasm.

Lol. Does he have the 4cyl or I5? I like the way those trucks look, heck I'd like to have one for a DD, but fast? I think not.

Re: Raced an Extreme Blazer

think its the I5. It sounds nice with the exhaust, but I know its not fast. My shop has a one and its not bad but not even close to a sy or ty.

Ok, I've been away from GM for over a decade...well I've had a few Tahoes in that time but nothing to play with. Anyhow, when you say I5, is that the same motor used in the H3? I really don't know much about the I5's but if it's the same, I would guess it could do really well in a S10 type truck.

Re: Raced an Extreme Blazer

I believe it pretty much is the same engine. 220hp 3.5 inline 5. Not super slow, but nothing too special. Just a fun little truck.

Now how much does those trucks weigh? I mean if it isn't much, it could give a few cars on the road a run for their money.

Re: Raced an Extreme Blazer

Reg Cab, 2wd 3,303 lbs, 4X4 3,615 lbs
Ext Cab, 2wd 3,468 lbs, 4X4 3,777 lbs
Crew Cab, 2wd 3,684 lbs, 4X4 3,962 lbs

I4cyl, 2.9L 185 hp @ 5,600, 190 tq @ 2,800
I5cyl, 3.5L 242 hp @ 5,600, 242 tq @ 4,600

So maybe a Reg cab with a I5 might be OK for a regular vehical.

EDIT: Best I found with the I5 was 0 to 60 in 7.7 sec and 1/4 mile times of 15.9 @ 89 mph. They come standard with 15" wheels, so obviously GM is still using it's itty bitty brake setups

Re: Raced an Extreme Blazer

I'll stick to my Supercharged 5.4L truck or soon to be turbocharged Typhoon

SyTyless......for now!
Re: Raced an Extreme Blazer

I'll stick to my S15 thanks. While the Colorado might outdo my 160 horsepower, the 4.3 still pulls like a freight train:tup: Now a V8 Colorado.....hmmm :squint:

It's not as bad as you think. My old daily turned project truck is a 2.2/5spd combo......A few bolt ons (intake, exhaust, pulley, Efan), and it's a VERY tolerable daily driver. Gets 20+mpg around town, but not alot in the 1/4....I've won fastest 4cyl at S-series nationals for two years running with a near 18 second 1/4 mile time :D :D......Definately NOT fast. With the ZQ8 suspension, and the 2/3 drop on it, I'll show all but the best setup Sy/Ty my tailgate through the twisties.......As soon as there is more than 1/8th mile of straight lines I'm a gonner.......I tell you what, if I could keep the balance of the 4banger, and get the power of the bigger/boosted motor I'd be all over it.

In other thoughts referencing the thread. I've got a local buddy with an Xtreme blazer. It's just like mentioned above heavy, and pretty slow......There is SOME hope for it though, Several tuners have 3bar SD tunes available for the comptuers, and the heads are the same bolt pattern as always so to make a turbo version wouldn't be terribly hard....just expensive, and silly considering the price of the typical Sy/Ty original :D

Oh ya with a 5spd....I'm saying with an auto it would fully sux. I've had n/a 4bangers w/autos and it suxed even with CAI and exhaust. You loose around 15 percent with a manual but around 20 percent with an auto. Those arew pretty rough numbers but is what most dyno shops go by. Anyways, thats a lot of power loose on a motor putting out 115bhp.

Yep, stock it's rated at 120hp/140ft-lbs.....dyno says 99hp, 120ft-lbs to the wheels :(

It's slow as hell!
