ok, i bought a 92 white/(gray)silver typhoon that needed a lot of tlc and here are a list of problems im having....

loss of power
the truck has high/ rough idle
very high oil pressure 80psi
only wants to hold 5-8psi of boost
escaping boost feeling
smoke from valve covers
running rich and wont pass smog

i got the truck serviced @gm dealership( cap, rotor, plugs, wires, oil, all drivetrain fluids, smog check, vac inspection, etc.) i changed all vac line i could see needed to be changed( truck has no vac canisted :dunno: ....), i changed the O2 sensor, wastegate sol, vac hoses. i need a good mech in the bay area and any help would be greatly appreciated.

is there actual exhaust escaping from the valve covers, or is it more like oil dripping from them onto a manifold?

pop your oil cap off with the truck running and see if smoke comes out

could be a few things, first i you are better of getting a compression check, could be you have a bad cilinder, cause blow by.

do you have smoke coming out of the exhaust at WOT? or at start up? any difference between warm and cold?

white smoke at start up, no smoke a wot and no real difference btween cold and warm :dunno:

First mistake was taking it to the dealership. They know less about the truck than you do most likely, even if you aren't a mech. I agree with the others, do a compression check. That'll tell you if you need to get into the motor. Other than that, you have little idea if the dealer used the right tune up stuff, such as plugs, which on these trucks, has a gross impact on how they drive and idle. Third, if you are using the stock oil pressure gauge for your pressure reading, it is probably inaccurate. It is common on these trucks. Forth, the boost you hold is likely affected by the WG. Many stock WG's, if not most, don't function as they should. They are old and get sticky, not to mention improperly sized. It could be stuck open, bleeding off exhaust, thus affecting the boost you can hold and control. Fifth, check what chip is in the thing, get a AFPR and lower the fuel pressure. Lower the FP, unplug the tan wire under the pass. side carpet and go through smog. Bottom line, none of this will matter if you need a new motor. I'd make sure every last vacuum hose is replaced as well.

chip
map sensor
vacuum leaks (check 10 more times)
fuel pressure
WG rod length
boost control
WOT volts

Get datamaster...make this priority #1.

I will check all of the above. I'm not to mech inclined but when I went to look at the truck, I found @ least 2 vac hoses not even connected. the truck is very solid but it just feels as if all the boost is being released instead of being used.

Here's my diagnosis:The engine is worn out from detonation,fuel wash,or general wear and tear..It needs a complete rebuild.
