Purchased LS swapped syclone. Advice needed.

Hello,

I have owned a relatively stock syclone for years, and just picked up a 47k mile syclone with an ls swap. I run a GMC dealership, so I thought it would be neat to build a wild turbo syclone.

Digging into it has revealed it needs to be completely redone. I even thought about selling it due to the amount of work that has to be done....I have several other projects going on. I think I will probably continue with my origional plans though.

My origional plan was to do a single 88mm turbo, upgrade to an iron block, and keep it AWD. It currently does not have A/C which isn't much of a concern.

Recently, I've thought about ditching the awd for two reasons:

1) it would simplify things
2) it would be faster at the track, hands down.

I'd like thoughts on ditching the AWD. If you have done it, did you regret it?

Also, if you run awd, what tire setup are you using for a radical street strip deal? Thanks.

If it is not all wheel drive, then it's just a pick up truck. Do it right or not bother. If you want to go fast buy a crotch rocket.Just my opinion.

no AWD, then sell it and go buy an S10. No point in calling it a Syclone anymore without it.

Re: Purchased LS swapped syclone. Advice needed.

Wiring is a MESS. Crimp connectors all over, fuse blocks look like they came from track auto all over the place. Truck has stalled because the fuel pump connector literally fell off driving down the street. Exhaust system looked like it was welded up with a stick welder. Instead of using the correct aeroquip AN connectors on the end of the braided stainless line, the line is simply crimped on with a hose clamp. That's just the beginning......

I understand about the AWD arguments - now who can suggest a tire setup that works on the street/track? Does anybody run MT drag radials on all 4 corners?

I have a 4L80E being built for it. Would have liked to put a powerglide but overdrive is nice...

I agree with everyone else.... I don't understand people that buy a syclone and pull the AWD out.... then all you have is an over priced Sonoma. I hate to say it but if its really a low mileage syclone I would pull the ls1 out- swap back in a stock engine and buy an s10 or a Sonoma to drop the ls1 in, if your goal is to have a v8 turbocharged s/pickup. Low mileage syclones are fetching more and more money- just seems like blasfamy to me for one to have a ls1 in it- I love lsx cars but then fun part of a syclone is the AWD and the turbo

Truck is pretty cut up and I don't have a desire to put a V6 in it. I have lots of extra LS stuff laying around.

if you want to keep the ls1 I would take the entire harness apart, solder and heat shrink and replace bad connectors, get the truck running 100% right then look into what kind of turbo set up you want to go with. but definatly do whatever you can do to keep the AWD

I have a spare wiring harness ( gto-blue/green connector) that I could sell you if you want to go that route. It's also for a 4l80e trans. You would need a ecm and they go for aorund $100.00 on e-bay.

Are the basics OK? motor mounts, oil pan, radiator? Did they cut up the trans tunnel, radiator support?

Re: Purchased LS swapped syclone. Advice needed.

Basics are ok. Well, almost. Radiator is pretty well unsecured l.

Will most likely strip the truck down and start over.

its a damn shame when someone spends a lot of time and money on a project just to slap it together in the end- that how my trans am was when I bought it- looked clean until I got it home and spent a month getting it together right
