PROMinator write/verify error :D

Hey all!,

I am at the stage where I need to burn a BIN onto my truck's ECM and am using your PROMinator PRO.

I have connected it to the ECM and also the little blue LED programme selector and my comp detects it fine. (LPT1 port 378d)

I can't for some reason seem to burn the BIN onto the PROMinator though.

I get the following error:

Verify failed at:

Address 0x00

ROM: 0x10
FILE: 0x01

Address 0x01

ROM: 0xB6
FILE: 0x42

I tried burning to programme 0 and 1 with the selector, with the switch on the selector in both positions. I get the same error for all variations. I'll post this on code59.org as well and see if someone can identify what's wrong. The BIN file I am using is Dig's 60lb BIN from code59.org

Any help would be gratefully appreciated! Thanks!

Please PM me or e-mail mf_edwards@yahoo.com.

I am the same login on www.code59.org as well if anyone is over there :D
(Same post posted there as well)

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

Keep in mind that $59 bins are 32k unlike the stock 16k bins. If you have software set to program for 16k, it's gonna return errors. I personally don't use the PROMinator, but I've seen people forget to adjust for larger bins sizes several times. You probably accounted for it, but it's something to look at.

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

Thanks for the reply, Dig just said the same thing over on the code59 forum.

I can't see where to change it? The image size comes up as 32k but is that the image file or the setting on the PROMinator?....searching....

It appears that I can't manually set the image size and the PROMinator should do it automatically...

Could the PROMinator be bad? It is being detected immediately and seems to behave in other ways (not detected if power off etc)?

:dunno:

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

I just downloaded and played with the PROMinator software and it's about a feature-packed as the Windows Clock. Pretty useless stuff, but does the job for simple up/downloading I guess. Have you tried using TunerPro to upload the file? TP will let you specify different sizes and is compatible with the PROMinator.

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

No I haven't tried that - there goes my Friday night!

I didn't think Tuner Pro could burn stuff, was just a BIN edit programme.

I have the paid for the pro version so that would be good - can you do it on the fly?

Where is the best place to get info on how to do this?..searching...

Yeah, the PROMinator software is pretty rudimentary - if it works, great, if not... :(

So if it works then great, otherwise I'm looking for an Ostrich....

Thanks Mike :D

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

Well after 30 min messing around with the settings I managed to find in Preferences the bit for PROMinator support but it didn't detect the hardware.

I am thinking of just buying the Ostrich as it seems that is what everyone has anyway.

Hopefully I can get one in the next week otherwise I am months away from driving this thing :(

Moates.net would be on holiday wouldn't they? Nothing shipped before 8 April. Great.

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

Are you using RT or the non-RT version of TunerPro? Mark has mentioned before that RT might be required to remedy some of the issues with the PROMinator. Check out Mark's forum as there are several over there using the PROMinator: http://forum.tunerpro.net/

If you don't see the hardware attached message in the status bar, then obviously TP hasn't found the PROMinator. I have noticed that TP can be picky about how/when it's hardware is detected, so try multiple methods to achieve connectivity (try physically attaching the PROMinator first, then starting TP......or try starting TP, then physically attaching the PROMinator and hitting the initialize attached hardware button). You should be able to get TP to see the PROMinator. If you can't, you may have a bad piece of hardware.

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

i have RT. Took your advice - ignition on, THEN start TP RT...Connected to PROMinator....

Uploaded DIg's file...

UPLOAD SUCCESSFUL!! :woot: :woot: :woot:!!!

vacuum lines and then fill er up and possibly start later today?

Mike - how do I buy you a beer? Got PP? :D

Thanks!

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

No way man - this is major stuff :D I owe you :D

Come for a ride in my truck over here :D

OK, so it works...mostly.

If I have an image size of greater than 16k then it doesn't load correctly. I can't load via Tuner Pro RT but I can using the Prominator utility.

I made a few modifications to a BIN as a test and I can upload with the utility and download effectively with TPRT. Looks like I need to save everything as a changed BIN before uploading it via the utility. That could get very tedious.

I can't verify with Tuner Pro though as it crashes and say something about RAM not being the same size. I had a look in RT settings and couldn't see anywhere other than the BIN stacker to change it to 16k so that wasn't much use.

Basically all the BINs I can use have to be 16k and edited and saved then uploaded via the PROMinator utility. I am going to have to e-mail Mark Mansur and see what he says.

Tuning via this method doesn't seem practical so I may get see about getting the PROMinator upgraded to the 32k version by speedtronics if the guy gets back to me.

Other than that it seems to be ok.

I have been on Tooky's website and I just need to find a 16k file to get my truck to start otherwise the stock BIN will get used. I really hope someone has a 16k file that sort of matches my setup or I am going to have a long and boring week sorting out all these values.

I want to avoid tuning like this if at all possible - bezerk recommended I buy a BIN from somewhere and I am inclined to agree with him.

Anywhere I can get a 16k BIN for my setup?

Thanks again Mike, this is big stuff!

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

Mark....i just uploaded the last three 16kb bins I did before I went Code59 on my truck. My mods then were 50#ers, 412 cam, and 60-1 turbo. Download them and use them for your benefit. LMK how it goes.

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

You rock. Fact.

I'll load this up then I need to flush my fuel lines, set the AFPR and then start her up. Is it tempting fate to have a video camera on hand?

I always watch Overhaulin' (why hasn't anyone had a Typhoon or a Syclone done yet?!) and their trucks start first time with no hitches

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

Distributor 180 out.
ECM grounds not tight.
Vac line unhooked.
Fuse blown.
Sensor(s) unplugged.
Etc.....

Something always goes wrong....at least with me it does. I never have a camera (or anyone else) with me when I start a truck for the first time. Hopefully, you'll have better luck.

Re: PROMinator write/verify error :D

checked
working
got that to do
new box of fuses
new sensors/plugged .

I hear ya! Prob fuel lines leak or something.

OK, just off out to the petrol station to get some more fuel plus some octane boost for my tank. The fuel is pretty old but the containers were all pressurised so I think the stuff in there is good.

I had a look at your tunes (using the 0708 version from the link) and I had 3 questions.

1. On the 2(or 3) Bar MAP option, do I check this or leave it unchecked? It said in the XDF that an additional hack was required?

2. How do I include my WBo2? I have it plugged in to the F14 Pin on the ECm (or E14..can't remember off the top of my head but it is the pin that everyone else uses - found after searching on here)

3. The Fuelling tables : VE vs MAP vs RPM - the background is in red. Is that closed loop or open loop or something?

If I could call you later that would be a big help man. Can you PM me your number if you're not busy?

I still have the vac lines to do and check spark etc but I am hoping to get it going this evening.

:D
