I worked on the fender flares today. I dont like them but think they will look better than having the front tires stick out and look goofy. I never did come up with a great idea on how to cut them and blend them into the Sonoma GT bumperettes, so i decided to just cut them off where they meet and round off the edge. The next step is to smooth them out and paint them to match the truck. They should look a lot better painted. One improvement is how low the truck looks with the flares on. I love the look of a slammed truck.

You can see that the flare is just about flush with the tire on the truck. Much better than the crazy rock chips.
jsw_img_5486.jpg

Not perfect but the certainly make the truck look lower.

I always liked those flares on the s-trucks, and yes they will look even better painted. The only other option would be the wide stainless ones, but they won't stick out far enough to cover the tires. Paint those up, IMO they look great.

The truck looks great Greg it is coming along nicely. I like the look of the flares and I agree they will look even better painted.

I think the only other option would be to put a full cladding set on. So when are the rest of the wheels going to get painted and the glass installed?

Have you decided on the GS red stripes, wether you are going to keep them or not? I like the wider look but I think they should be slanted a little bit more towards the back of the truck.

Can't wait to see it completely done.

Yeah Im excited to see what they will look like painted. Alot of smoothing first though. I thought about the Bushwackers, but I think that they are too big.

I like the full cladding but if I want that Ill get another Typhoon. Just dont want to make a cheap copy of a Typhoon. I have decided that I am going to add the Sonoma GT rocker mouldings, customized of course, to the rockers and then custom mould in some rear corner pieces to syill be able to use the moulded in roll pan. Then it will be the Tyclone GT! SoGT gauges and ground effects, plus Typhoon interior and AWD, plus Corvette wheels, "engine" and paint. My dream truck!

The stripes I am going to put on, wider than the 1st one I put on. I may lean them a bit more, I am going to do them in vinyl, so i can change em up at will. (My buddy owns a sign shop) hehe

Project fender flare is well under way. I have the front both trimmed and got all four of them washed, sanded, and primed.

While we paint the flares and handles, we need to paint everything else so we can be done with it. The list... *gulp*

jsw_picture_171.jpg

- Repaint the grille, right stripe doesnt line up with bumper stripe

- repaint left bumperette, clear was sprayed dry on the top.
jsw_picture_156.jpg

- repaint right bumperette, I gouged it trimming the flare (dangit)
jsw_picture_157.jpg

- Repaint hood, repair stripes on front and fix where I burned through wet sanding it

- repaint tailgate, repair stripes on front and fix where I burned through wet sanding it

- Repaint left fender, BAD sanding scratches visible and I cant live with them
jsw_picture_153.jpg

- repaint roll pan, repair stripes in corner

That should just about do it for paint!

I needed to pull the fenders "one last time"... Man Im good at putting it together and taking it apart now. lol

I'm painting one fender and I need to install the stock baffles by the A-pillars in both fenders.

----------

Here is a peek at what my stripes look like up close. Just a few strips of WIDE pinstripes we had left over from some old project. Looks like I will go with Grand Sport width which is 2 3/4" wide and a 3/4 inch gap in between. Im going to lean them a bit more like the Vette as well.

Was in a hurry to paint it and didnt realize that that fender needed to be sanded still... That was like 320 scratches in it. Its fixed now and looks awesome.

Been working on wet sanding and buffing it this week. fun fun...

Got a phone call from a customer recently, he asked if I knew anyone that wanted to buy his 1993 S10 Blazer. He was looking for $400. I said Ill give him $250 right now. So I did, and drove home my new truck. Power everything and complete dash. GREAT parts truck, now I can get my dash back together!!
